OS
Windows 11
My Specs:
OS:
Windows 11 Home - Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4541)
Computer type: PC/Desktop
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
Motherboard: MSI Mag B650 Tomahawk Wifi
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR5 32GB (16GB x 2)
Graphics Card: Radeon RX 7600 XT
Monitor: Alienware 240Hz 1080p AW2720HF
Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080

I have:
- Updated all drivers for all hardware.
- Updated windows to the newest version, including optional updates.
- Restarted my pc.
- Unplugged my monitor.
- Switched HDMI cables to one that also supported 240hz in the past, and switched back to the original after it didnt solve the issue.
- Searched around on google to find any solution, and none have worked.

Issue:
Today, I went to check my refresh rate because it felt like it was running lower than usual, and to my surprise, the settings were completely gone.

As you can see, below the Display Information section, there was no option to change or view my Refresh Rate.
I have been able to change the refresh rate in the past, and have never encountered this error. Also, incase it has any relevance, I built this pc a few weeks ago.

I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to fixing these types of issues, so here is some screenshots of my drivers and display information when clicking "Display adapter properties for display 1" in my display information settings:

Thanks for taking your time to help me :)

Somehow, the PC has fallen back to the Microsoft Basic display driver.

I suggest re-installing the Radeon drivers, direct from AMD.

If you can download the monitor's drivers from Dell, that may also be helpful. (The "optional" drivers, from 15 August, 2022.) They aren't really drivers as such. They include a .inf file that identifies the monitor to Windows.

Thank you so very much!

I didn't install the monitor drivers from dell, but I did reinstall Adrenaline. Somehow, my Adrenaline software decided to uninstall itself (and perhaps the drivers with it?)
I reinstalled Adrenaline and sure enough, it updated the drivers from Microsoft Basic Display.

Thanks again for your quick response!

You don't have to type the computer specs in your posts.

Aw, thanks!

I thought I'd include my specs in the post because I wasn't sure if it was going to give people a link to my parts.

This is my first time using this form, and I have to say that it's been a great and fast experience. Most of my knowledge is with Linux, so I require support for Windows often, and this place will definitely be my go-to. If only I had more experience with Windows, or if this site had Linux sections, I'd love to give people some support!

Thanks again for the points. 😄

Hi,

Windows Update might also install Radeon software as optional update that broke your previous manual installation. For me it also offers some extensions to the AMD software which break the refresh rate option. You might need to remove them if there's anything installed.

And you might consider disabling driver updates through Windows Update.
