Solved regular notepad opening up two windows

I have Windows 11. I know I regret it but anyway. I found the option to open up in a new window in notepad but now when I open up a file it opens up two files. When I close the first window I notice another is open. The previous window I opened, but had closed. Strange. How do I disable it from opening up two windows? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

In notepad click the little gear in upper right corner to get to its settings. Click down arrow to right of "When notepad starts" select "start new session and discard unsaved changes"

For classic Notepad... This is probably the same as the @Brink tutorial... but this is how I did it. AND... double clicking on a text file... opens in the old Notepad...
