Repeated hard drive errors. Replaced drive. Still getting errors.

One of my storage drives is an internal WD Blue 1TB hard drive. Every few days, I had to run CHKDSK on it to repair drive errors. Each time CHKDSK succeeded. but the problem kept recurring.
So I replaced the drive with a brand-new internal Seagate Barracuda 1TB hard drive and restored the contents from an image backup.
But I'm still getting errors every few days and I'm still having to run CHKDSK.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't understand how a new drive from a different manufacturer could fail to resolve the problem.

There could be at least 4 reasons:

  1. Drive is overheating, or something else is overheating.
  2. Since you're on a B-450 board, it is possible the issue is with RAM or it's controller. This generation CPUs are known to be very picky with RAM.
  3. It is possible you have some software installed that prevents proper shutdown sometimes, thus it needs to check the drive. Norton could be one cause, but this is just speculation.
  4. In rare cases it may be the GPU that causes the issue, either driver problems or power problems.
Also with age, hardware tend to become a bit unstable because of power fluctuations. We are talking millivolts here.

Does your computer crash sometimes out of the blue?

Some other considerations:

It could be a bad SATA port or even the SATA cable. If you have a spare cable, try that first. If still no joy, try another port for testing purposes if one is available.

One other thing many are not aware of: Avoid sharp bends of over 90 degrees in the SATA cable. That can cross problems with crosstalk, especially on lower quality SATA cables. More gradual bends are fine even if total bend is more than 90 degrees. It's just the sudden sharp bends that are an issue.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Try different connection for the hard drive, it could be faulty connection port or cable.

my WD 1TB Blue NVMe drive needed firmware updating.
you can use the WD dashboard to check and update the drive.

Oops! I had forgotten to update my computer specs before I posted. I had upgraded to a B650E-F motherboard. I'll fix that today.

From these suggestions:

I've been monitoring my drive temps, and none of the drives are overheating.

I'll try replacing the SATA cable.

The possibility that it's a GPU issue got me to thinking. The ASUS mobo that I now have is known to have occasional boot issues that could be GPU-related, so maybe that needs fixing in order to fix this hard drive problem. I'll try these fixes here:
