I have a Fujitzu ScanZen Model: P3708A scanner that was working on windows 11 about three months ago. It uses Page Manager program to scan items. I tried to use it couple days ago and it will not work. I get an error message when I try to scan something. "Unable to retrieve image from device. Verify that the device is properly connected and that the power is on, and then try again."
I have searched the internet and have found several drivers but all are the same - the one I am using. I contacted the page manager maker and they have no answers.
I have installed two scan apps from windows store - windows scan and Docs scan pdf and the scanner works with both of them though they are not adequate to my scanning needs. The program folks asked me to load MS Paint. I tried paint and the scanner works fine.

Have uninstalled software and driver, rebooted several times and nothing changes.

Evidently windows has changed something?

AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics 3.20 GHz; 32.0 GB (27.9 GB usable); Beelink mini pc; Windows 11, 24H2.

My printer stopped scanning after various windows 10 and 11 updates. However it works from the computer end, but not from the scanner end! By using the HP app. Obviously yours isn't HP but maybe there is something similar?

So I just open the HP Smart app, select Scan and the scanner works and sends the document to the computer. If I try to use the printer/scanner controls to do a scan it doesn't work.

There does appear to be a Scanzen app. Not sure if you've tried that.

If the scanner is working with programs like Paint and Microsoft scan, I’d suggest it’s the software. Who makes the Page Manager software? Do they have a forum?

I contacted the page manager software folks and they have no answers other than possibly windows 11. PSIPTWAIN-SZ-1_54_Oca.exe is the driver package which I've downloaded and tried three different ones as well as the original. There are also two updated page manager trial packages that I've installed and none of the three versions of the program work.

Try the app :-) Once I had the printer app on the computer, I didn't need to worry about drivers and software. Or there's a Windows Scan app in the Microsoft store - that might work. It's just called Windows Scan.

here is the download software page for ScanZen.

one is a TWAIN driver which may help for the scanner.
the other is a software download tool.

how is this connected to the system, USB or networked (WiFi or Cable)
best of luck, Steve ..

I have had the same problem with my HP ENVY 5660. The printer's internal scan function refuses to work, but an insistence from a third-party scanner originating from my Dell XPS will.

Is this software called Presto Page Manager? Looks ancient. And as much as it references Windows 11, in the system Recommended Configuration it also references Outlook Express 😁 Which my great great grandfather used in Windows Archaic v2

Have you looked at alternatives?

Uninstalled everything, rebooted, installed just the page manager program and still nothing. The link suggested is where I tried, as well as others I found, all are the same files but I tried them any way and none work.

The scanner is connected via usb. I've tried different ports. Windows recognizes when the scanner connects and disconnects - it is shown in windows control panel/printers and devices. Have removed it but when it shows back up, nothing changes.

You seem to be treating this as if it is a problem with the scanner yet you clearly referenced that the scanner works with at least 2 other types of software, didn’t you?

I have installed two scan apps from windows store - windows scan and Docs scan pdf and the scanner works with both of them though they are not adequate to my scanning needs.

Very definitely a windows/driver problem in my mind. Scanner does work with four other programs/apps, just not page manager. Yes, it is old, as I am and no I don't work any more either ;-)

If I don't find an answer soon, I will just hook it up to one of my old windows 10 units and be done with it, then I, an old guy, will scan with all my old toys :-)

Oh, forgot, in page manager you can select the source and it seems to work when I choose my canon printer/scanner, so further indication it is driver/windows issue.

I think he was referring to the same issue I had with an HP printer :-)

If it's a driver issue OP, that's why I was suggesting an app from the microsoft store. I don't particularly understand apps but my HP app works way better than my HP drivers used to!

Found a program (freeware) that does the trick, works right after I installed it. NAPS2 if anyone has my problem. It is a tad slower than the old program but works! It hesitates a little bit between sheets as it scans.

There are two scanner drivers Windows WIA and TWAIN, the first is supplied by Windows the second is provided by the scanner manufacturer and uses it's App, normally much more comprehensive than the WIA method.

MS Paint only uses the WIA method, as does the Windows Scan app.

Your post #4 indicates it is the TWAIN driver. Much the better for detailed options.

"Very definitely a windows/driver problem in my mind. Scanner does work with four other programs/apps, just not page manager."

That statement means the Windows WIA driver is working. The problem is with the manufacturers scanning App and the associated TWAIN driver.

Something like IrfanView has a choice of WIA, or TWAIN driver with options for 32 bit(old) and 64 bit.
It maybe worth installing just as a test as to where the problem lies.

My scanner works in TWAIN mode with the 64 bit option, but not the older 32 bit option. It switches to the ScanGear App(Canon).

This may or may not work for your related problems with the HP scanner. I have an old printer (worked with Vista, Win 7 and Win 10) HP Photosmart series D110 eprint. It worked fine on my newly bought Windows 11 until I got all the updates. Yesterday, I unplugged the printer from the power source. Waited for a bit, then plugged it back in. I went into "Settings", right clicked on the printer and added a shortcut to my desk. Now when I right click on it, it gives me options to scan or print, page layout and color or black (grayscale for docs)...
