Hi. I am not talking here about which browser to use. I have legitamit websites blocked. I was told that in windows, there is a an address for the search engine that is used to do searches. Somewhere in internet and networking. Can't seem to find it. Can anyone help me here please.

Its a kind of database look up system. When I google search engine it comes up with searching browsers. This is not what I need. I want to stop the "You do not have rights to go there"

I asked this question a few years ago. And managed to solve it. It is stored somewhere in windows, the default look up engine that web browsers use. I have been there but can not work out how I got there. Somewhere in networking, you can change the http link to what the browser goes for. This is not a firewall issue.

Search engines are part of browsers.

For example with Edge Browser, you can select to use google as the search engine.

By default your Windows search engine is Bing, which is part of the default browser, Edge.
If you install a second browser, you now have the option to set your default browser, and search engine. Go into windows settings and choose which browser works best for you.

To change the default search engine in Microsoft Edge, go to Settings -> Privacy, Search and Services and scroll at the bottom. Find Address bar and Search at the Services section and click on it. Then change the Search engine used in the address bar from Bing to Google or whatever else.

Got my terminology wrong it was DNA engine. But I am confused. I did this a few years ago on my desktop. I was trying to do this now on my laptop. For some strange reason that has changed also. Has this got something to do with my microsoft account?

It's probably DNS (not DNA - that's for organic beings).

  3. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press ENTER
  4. Restart your computer

Your ISP will have put in place a default DNS server on your PC. This can block websites that are legitimate and you need to get to.

Solution. To change DNS provider

Control panel -> Network and sharing centre
click on connections <Name>
Properties
Click on Internet protocol
Check Use the following DNS
Enter another server like clean browsing

Not true. There are no DNS servers specified on my computers. DNS is specified in my routers.

Windows 11 comes with a default DNS server provided by Microsoft, which you can access and change through the network settings within the operating system; you can view and modify your DNS settings by going to "Settings > Network & Internet" and selecting your network connection to see the assigned DNS server. That’s not to say that everyone has one set, I’ve never even looked.

If you set a custom DNS on your computer, you may have trouble connected to wifi in a hotel as it is normal for their system to 'redirect' any URL to the hotel's website initially.
