Solved Settings App - Crash - Graphics Settings

That Asus Amoury Crate software is not a good app, is a dog and should be avoided like the plague. šŸ¤§

Hi Friend!

I HAD this exact same issue!

If you uninstall Armoury Crate and Asus Framework it will fix this issue. It did for me at least. I don't know if I only needed to delete Armoury Crate though. Deleting framework may not be necessary but I deleted them both and all registry files and folders associated with them before I restarted and tested again. Zero issues since. I learned that deleting these could also fix other incompatibility issues with 24h2 as well. So far so good.

I did use REVO uninstaller program. After it uninstalls your chosen program via their native uninstaller, it searches out the registry keys and folders that are leftover in your system afterwards. I have been using the free version of REVO for over a decade with no problems. Look it up. Highly recommend. Just be careful when deleting the searched leftover registery etc... Just delete the search resulted bolded black files and never their "container above" as these containers may hold many other important files etc...

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Best,
J
Don't need to uninstall Armoury Crate and ASUS Framework: just delete that key value in the registry. That key contains the list of all promoted iGPU/dGPU apps (even though I'm not sure "asus_framework.exe" was visible in the UI among listed apps).

In short: Win11 24H2's Settings ... Graphics crashes if you have "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ArmouryDevice\asus_framework.exe" promoted/forced to iGPU (value = 1), ask MS why ;) Remove that GPU preference deleting that registry key value and the problem is solved.

@Anaksy Just want to clarify something so there is no misunderstanding. If it has been l1ss tha 10days since you upgraded to 24h2, you can roollback to 2h2 in recovery. If it has been longer than 10 days, you can NOT rollback.
That be the case, also know you can only clean install 23h2, You can NOT use the inplace upgrade procedure to go from 24h2 to 23h2.

I have been struggling with this issue since I upgraded from 23H2 -> 24H2 a few days ago: 7/10 times Graphics panel freezed and crashed! So annoying...
Applied @Mac Mac solution deleting:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\UserGpuPreferences]
"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ASUS\\ArmouryDevice\\asus_framework.exe"="GpuPreference=1;"
and it seems to have worked! Doesn't happen anymore!

And does deleting this registry prevents Armoury Crater from working correctly?

Of course no. Will do just what I've said: it's the same as removing an app from the list of promoted iGPU/dGPU apps from Settings ... Graphics, but you do it from the registry. Won't touch AC at all and won't prevent it from running as usual. It's just Windows Settings that can go crazy if you have AC set to iGPU for some unknown reason....

Also if you don't want to edit registry, just open armory crate and then the windows settings -> graphics, it will open now.

then you will see an armory crate entry and virtual pet entry is there under "custom settings for applications" , remove those two entries and all good...
