A positive update - for anyone interested.
On a Dell forum someone suggested stopping any 'Killer' services. I had Killer Analytics and Killer Network running. As soon as I stop these my Wi-Fi speed increases, from around 25/27mbps to 100mbps! I don't have the technical know-how to understand why and also (with the Killer services stopped) the WiFi icon in the taskbar looks like it has a poor connection - but my speed has quadrupled!
So, I'll be keeping the Killer Services off. I've been doing this for a week now and I can't see anything detrimental for doing so.
