Something happened and your PIN isn't available" Boot Loop - Cannot Login

Hi everyone,

I have a windows 11 24h2 installed and had problems with the GPU drivers so I wanted to safe mode and use DDU but apparently I am stuck with a very common unfixed windows bug. In safe mode I get to the login page and get this error : Something happened and your PIN isn't available
I cant set my pin again and I apparently cant un change my safe mode either so I'm in this loop. The problem is that in the recovery screen the command prompt is basically doing nothing because it seems it isn't connected to any disk because even using :
bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot

I get this error : boot configuration data store could not be opened

the requested system device cannot be found

And I even tried to locate any drivers but
diskpart
list volume

shows me nothing.
I really cant afford to re install windows because I have some really needed info on disk C.

The first thing is to protect your data before you do something that might destroy it.. You can do this by either using your imaging software's boot disk and attempting to make an offline image. If you do not use imaging software, you can create a Linux boot disk and run your Linux distro directly from the disk to copy your Windows user files to external media (Ubuntu or Mint Cinnamon are excellent for this) Another option is to put your drive into an external enclosure and use another machine to copy and paste your user files to external media.

I recently got hit with something similar, I was getting a blue screen and reboot right after the login screen showed up. I never got the chance to enter anything. Don't know what happened, I did a couple of installs that seemed to go well, and the applications worked fine. However, when I rebooted later in the day, I was DOA. Doing a safe start and a system restore didn't fix it. I tried a few fixes and finally restored my image from a few days before and moved on.

Backup is really key!

Once you're back up and running, I suggest you segregate your boot partition and your data partition so that you can easily recreate your Windows partition without losing any data. All my data files, Documents, etc. are on a separate data drive that gets backed up every day, and my Windows boot partition gets backed up once a week.

Just for info for future safe mode use - turn off "For improved security only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft account on this device (recommended)" in Settings, Accounts Sign-in options as this will give the option to use password while logging in at safe mode. The other is never use msconfig for safe boot.

Hi all.

I use the RUN dialog box (Winkey + R) and enter the following command to boot into Safe Mode

shutdown -r -o -t 20

Note: The o in above command is not zero. It is the letter o.

This command leads me to Advanced Startup Options menu and from there with a couple of mouse clicks I boot into Safe Mode.

Today I tried to boot into Safe Mode and entered my PIN. My PIN was accepted. Therefore, PIN not accepted situation must be installation-specific.

My PC has incompatible CPU and TPM rev. 1.2. The Windows 11 version number is 24H2 and build number is 26100.3915
