Solved Still will not start after troubleshoot options and scannow and dism

Entered
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:E:\sources\install.wim
which worked and had checked the install.wim file was at that location
However, when I entered the following for Windows Home which is #1
dism /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:E:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess
it was "unable to access the image" and "Make sure that the image path and the windows directory for the image exist and you have Read permissions on the folder".
I was able to get to the .wim file on E drive and was able to list the directory on C:\Windows for example so have some sort of read access.
The attached is a photo of the dism.log file.

Definitely enabled as it tells me this every time I restart it and have to type in the 48 character bitlocker key which is a pain.

It's easy to turn off Bitlocker if you don't want it. Control Panel>Bitlocker Drive Encryption. If it's on, there will be a "turn of Bitlocker" option.

If I can get Windows to load then I will go to Control Panel and turn it off.

Try chkdsk E: /r command.

Also execute dism.exe /image:C /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
Chkdsk E: /r worked fine
dism.exe /image:C /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
worked and said to reboot which I did, but no change.
Tried again
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:E:\sources\install.wim
which was fine , but
dism /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:E:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess
returned with same message as before.
Hmmmm?

Maybe error happening because of BitLocker encryption.

Do you check index number for home edition on image file (.wim) you are using?

Are you executing the command from Command Prompt that you booted with Windows 11 setup media?

Also see if there is BSoD error memory dump file at C:\Windows\MiniDump directory which you can use bluescreenview utility to view which driver causing the boot problem.

Ran
manage-bde off C:
which said "Decryption in progress" then returned to Command prompt. I restarted and same start up issue but no bitlocker request, which is a good start.
In answer to your questions:
"It might be caused by Bitlocker" so I went through the process again from the beginning, see below
I don't know if it is Home, Home N or Home Single Language so have selected Home which is index 1.
I am using the latest Windows Setup media on a USB stick, and selecting Repair
There is no memory dump file or folder in C:\Windows

In case the problem was bitlocker which is now off, I started again at the beginning
Chkdsk E: /r and Chkdsk C: /r /x
Both okay.
Sfc /Scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=C:\ /OFFWINDIR=C:\Windows
As before, "found corrupt files but unable to fix some of them"
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:E:\sources\install.wim was fine but
dism /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:E:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess
Different error than before (previously said "unable to access image") and now says "Error 0800f081f. Source files could not be found"
Tried
dism /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
Error 0800f082f

I can now see the filenames in her User folders which is something I could not do before changing bitlocker to off. Can also see folders and filenames, types, sizes in Notepad too, but cannot copy them to a separate USB drive as it states "File creation error. Cannot be accessed by the system"
Not sure what to try next. Hmmmmmm???

now that bitlocker is off and you can view/access the files.. have you tried going back to post 9 and using a linux live boot?

Great News!
Ubuntu has worked and now copying files. Some of her key Excel files are corrupted as it looks like they were actice when everything crashed, but otherwise looking very good. Thanks for everyone's help and advice so far. I am happy to try and get to the bottom of the problem if one of you would prefer that, but otherwise it seems best to just reinstall Windows 11.

Update in case anyone else gets a similar issue:
I could not get Win11 to instal from the USB ISO file as it failed at about 10% when trying to use it's default partition 3 in Volume 0. I then found forum threads suggesting the Vol 0 partitions had to be rejected, so now it got to 52% and stopped then restarted back to the original reset screen issue.
I then wondered if it was the SSD, even though previous Chkdsk C: /r (or whatever index letter it allocated) showed no problems, but of course, no drive letter allocated now, just a Volume 0 which Chkdsk won't work with. However, I then found the suggestion below on SuperUser.com

1735236079992.webp

So I booted using the USB into Repair, then went to Command prompt and did the above. It stopped first time I did it but then when /r was added it found bad sectors and fixed them. Then Windows 11 installed fine!!!. So I now don't trust the SSD so will upgrade to a new, larger one.

Thanks again to all of you.
