System Making Shortcuts | Desktop

For some reason, my Windows 11 keeps putting shortcuts on the desktop like they were first installed, and I have deleted them before. Now we're talking a year old when the installation of the original programs was put on the system. But now they are just putting them on the Desktop without any reason to do so, like a ghost.

There is no OneDrive at all on the computer.

If an app automatically updates, it may install a new shortcut to your desktop.
If you want to delete the shortcut, make sure Hidden Files are showing.
Browse to C:\Users\Public\Desktop (hidden) and delete the shortcut there.

That the thing it all application and some don't update cause I told them not to. I double check and it is turn off. The path C:\Users\Public\Desktop has no files in it at all.

They would be programs I have already installed that are non-windows programs—stuff like Malwarebytes, Brave Web Browser, OBS, Discord and others.

It would be my guess that it's related to Onedrive. I surmise, without additional information, you did not use the proper procedure before you uninstalled onedrive.
Here's the correct procedure that should have been done for anyone who does not want to use Onedrive

Proper sequence of events to get rid of ONEDRIVE

You first have to turn off backup folder syncing. This tutorial tells you how and also how to get your files onto your local drive.

NOTE: ONLY IF FOLDERS DO NOT MOVE TO DEFAULT LOCATION IN STEP 1 ABOVE DO THIS

If this happens, then you could try option three in the tutorials below to restore the default folder location and move your files manually from Onedrive into the folders..

2. Then you have to unlink account & PC from onedrive.

Once you do this the files you have in onedrive will remain there until you login to Onedrive on the Web and delete them.

Find Onedrive in the list and, right click on it, select disable. This prevents Onedrive from auto-starting.

4. If you want to uninstall it instead use Revo Uninstaller Freeware Portable. Be sure to delete any leftover files and registry entries Revo finds. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

It would be the case but as stated above I don't have OneDrive nor is it signed in and it has been uninstalled already. I'm also using a local account and have never signing to M-Soft stuff.

When I do a search for this issue it happens as well but found no answer from some sources I read.
