Did update KB5042099 yesterday, and can't see a lot of difference (always good IMHO) other than the taskbar

This is what it looks like now. Until yesterday, if icons from the same application were combined, and there was a notification, there'd just be a red bar under the icon, but now it's got a pink background. Now I know this is a tiny, tiny issue, but is there any way to get rid of the pink? :)

Simple answer: No

But I can understand why you wouldn't like this and therefore would recommend StartAllBack, which allows you to tweak the taskbar. Try it, see if it does what you want and after the trial ends, it is just $4.99 to buy.

Side note: the easiest way to install it is opening Terminal, and typing winget install startallback

Thanks for the reply! Guess I'll just have to get used to the pink and sit here quietly simmering with rage every time I notice it...

What program is that icon associated with, right-click of it and Properties. Also post your Windows Version and Build. WinKey + R, type winver.

Does it happen when notifications pop up from the app?

Windows version is 23H2 (OS Build 22631.4037) and the application is an older version of Outlook. It does indeed only happen when there's notifications from it, not emails, but reminders

I also had a problem with the latest update (KB5042099) when I installed it on Wednesday. I don't get updates on a Tuesday. I only get them on a Wednesday. But it is not the "pink background" problem. After the update, I could no longer pull up the Notification window or the calendar with a left mouse click. The right mouse click worked fine and none of the "date and time" or "notification" settings were incorrect.

I have no third party apps, that adjust the OS, installed. Nor do I use Outlook. However, after thinking a while, I rebooted my laptop and the left mouse click now works as it should on the date and notification icon.

This computer is connected to my IC-735 radio.
Probably Windows just needed to reload drivers at that reboot/restart.

I would guess at a combination Windows Themes and an old application.
Settings > Personalisation > possibly the Accent colour section or Mode.

It has something to do with notifications/reminders. I play a game on PC with notifications on and it turns red (like the screenshot you have) when I have the game open and in chrome for example. I also updated Windows recently.
