Hello everyone,
I'm Steve and this is my first post to this forum (I think my SevenForums account might still be active though).

I'm looking to either completely hide the window popup balloons / tooltips, or reduce their visibility duration down to 1-2 seconds from their current ~6 seconds (see attached). I know this used to be possible with earlier versions of Windows, but this has plagued me both in Windows 10 & 11, and is present across all of my devices: my two listed in my profile (Asus TUF Dash f15 & Alienware X15 R2) as well as my Surface Pro 8 all on Windows 11.

Also, all three machines are using StartAllBack 3.6.2 but this is really only used to prevent the combining of taskbar windows (pdf for each settings screen).
My Asus machine is Windows 11 Home whilst the Alienware is 11 Pro, so only have Group Policy Editor on the Alienware for registry settings, although I couldn't see any options in GPEdit on my Win Pro machine.

Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Steve

Hello and welcome,

Thanks @OAT,
This is a great start as I can increase the delay needed before the popup appears, but also, links at the bottom of that page describe how to disable it entirely - reading through now: Enable or Disable Taskbar Thumbnail Live Previews in Windows 10

I've been trying to work this one out for 3 years now; 20 minutes on here might've solved it. I'll report back

Steve

@glasskuter
"Pay it forward. If you solve your issue, mark your thread as solved, and post what fixed it for you. This helps the next person who comes here seeking assistance with the same problem. Folks here are volunteers who spend a lot of time trying to help. Acknowledging the posts that help you shows your appreciation for their efforts."

Do you help out on Tableau forum by chance? You wouldn't believe how many users never even bother to say thanks or close their posts.

Anyhoo, back to the problem in hand. @OAT, changing the mouse-over hover time hasn't made any difference for me sadly, but thank-you. And @glasskuter, just like you, I too have disabled all the notifications in the advanced section, and, my MouseHoverTime is already set to 400 (400ths of a second?) with MouseThreshold1 = 6, MouseThreshold2 = 10 and MouseSensitivity = 10

I'll increase the hover time to 2000 (2 seconds I guess), but about the other two, I'm not so sure.
On another note, I'm only wanting to affect the taskbar popups, ideally to disable these entirely as believe it or not, as the operator I actually know the contents of that tab, I don't need a tooltip balloon to tell me. But, how will altering these reg entries affect my mouse throughout the rest of the OS?

I'm sorry but I know of no way to completely disable hover on taskbar only. If there was a way you would bet Brink would have a tutorial for it.

I suppose one of the most destructive methods could be - install Red Hat instead... ;)
Thanks for trying @glasskuter, nonetheless

Frustratingly, this didn't work, the taskbar popups still hang around for much longer, though I do wonder whether the root cause could be Tableau, as it only ever happens when I have Tableau Desktop open.
