This is a query about Snipping Tool in Windows 11. I cannot use Snipping Tool as I did before on a daily basis with Windows 10. The issue is as follows: before I was able to copy a text and then using the Snipping Tool to capture an image. Then save as to my preferred folder with the name I had already copied.

Is there a way I could keep the text I had previously copied before using Snipping Tool and then paste that TXT to name the saved as image to a folder through CTRL + V?

For the record, I have already downloaded two similar APPS (Greenshot and ShareX), but I experience the same problem with both of them.

Thank you!

PS: By the way, I created a mini MP4 videoclip and attached it but noticed it didn't go through. It appears MP4 cannot be attached.

I’m not sure how the settings work but there should be a way to turn of copy to clipboard in Snipping Tool's settings

Thank you. I visited the link you provided and have made different attempts with different configuration, but the problem persists. It seems I was not very clear because Snipping Tool is copying images to the clipboard without any problem. Perhaps the issue at stake is that Snipping Tool is overriding the piece of text I had copied before to the clipboard with the intention of naming the image copied by Snipping Tool with the text I had copied. I will try to give an example.

Let's say I get a digital copy in PDF format of the book "The Three Musketeers" and would like to take a screenshot of the cover of the book. What I always did with Windows 10 was copying (CTRL + C) the title of the book to the clipboard (i.e. The Three Musketeers) before capturing the image of the cover of the book. Then I save the image by pasting (CTRL + V) the text I had sent to the clipboard in order to name the captured cover. Therefore, this is a case scenario with two items sent to the clipboard: first a piece of text and second an image. The problem I am experiencing is that Windows 11 is that, by the time I capture the imagen the text that I had sent to the clipboard just vanishes away.

Perhaps the issue at stake is that Snipping Tool is overriding the piece of text

Snipping tool by default or by settings request, copies the snip to the clipboard.

Also, by default, clipboard will only make available (Ctrl+V) the last thing you copied. This is where clipboard history comes into play.

So if you copy text first and then take a snip (or Visa Versa) the last thing copied takes precedent (Ctrl+V)
It has always been this way.

The trick would be to prevent Snipping Tool from copying the snip to the clipboard, haveing Snipping Tool open after the snip is taken, and saving as, so as to keep the text priority in the clipboard.

or

Setup Clipboard History as per the tutorial. Win+V should open the clipboard history (as far as I know) at which point you can select which copy you want to paste. (Again, as far as I know/remember)

Thank you very much! Tomorrow I will go through the tutorials again and will see what happens and I will keep you informed.

By the way, this has been happening only since got Windows 11. I have been using Snipping Tool on a daily basis several times per day for around 20 years and this is the very first time I am experiencing difficulties. However, I feel there should be a way to find a solution. As you well said, the issue at stake is being able to block Snipping Tool from copying the "image" to the clipboard after the image has been captured (as it always happened with Windows 10). In this way, when I save the captured image (SAVE AS) I name it by pasting the "text" (CTRL + V) I had already copied to the clipboard before capturing the image with Snipping Tool.

Snipping tool has been allowing snips to be copied to the clipboard since the late 2000’s. I think the difference is that it used to be an opt-in. Now I believe there’s every chance it’s an opt-out.

A lot of people have posted in here that they can’t seem to get Snipping Tool to open the image after Snipping so as to save it. For whatever reason I don’t have that problem on the rare occasion I use it. The image will show in the far right system tray for a short period after a snip, to click on and open Snipping Tool.
But I use ShareX now, I really like it.

Hello Antspants & A Guy!

Eureka!! Thank you to both of you for your support. After playing around and getting constantly frustrated, I just came back to square one and red your posts again. Boom! I realized that I could have never achieved my goal - even after turning ON the clipboard history. The reason of my failure was simply due to the fact that I was trying to paste the text in the clipboard I had copied before capturing the image with Snipping Tool by doing the same I used to do: pressing CTRL Button + V (Windows 10), instead of WINDOWS Button + V (Windows 11). I assume the option Windows + V in W11 might be explained by the fact that (as far as I remember) W10 did not allow us to have a clipboard history. Therefore, every time I tried to save and name a captured image by pressing CTRL + V, I just got nothing because in Windows 11 by pressing CTRL + V we only paste the last item in the clipboard which in my case scenario has always been an image that cannot be saved as such in a folder.

Re: Anspants. Yesterday I downloaded ShareX after feeling so frustrated with Snipping Toll, but encountered the same problem and eventually uninstalled it. Now I am wondering if the reason was not due to ShareX itself, but to the system (Windows 11). Perhaps in ShareX we should also use WIN + V if we want to get a previous clipboard (even if it is a text) among the items saved in the clipboard. As a matter of fact, later today I will download again ShareX to test the waters differently because I found it very appealing. Granted, it seems that ShareX offers more tools than Snipping Tool. Maybe for this reason at first ShareX might come across as being not very user-friendly, but I have the feeling it is much better than Snipping Tool. However, for people like me who only capture static images to save them in a folder or past them in MS Word files, I think Snipping Tool does the job perfectly. Perhaps the real difference in this regard between Snipping Tool and ShareX might be in the quality of the image we get. I will be looking at that aspect later today.

Thank you again! I am far from being disappointed for having registered in this platform.
