I don't approve of them forcing it on me.
Edge is core part of Windows. I believe windows update might rely on it in some way. No one is forcing your to use it. Install the browser of your choice, Manually make your browser of choice default for all the file types that it can open (Settings>Apps>Default Apps>choose desired browser from list>click right arrow. A list of all the file types that browser can open will pop up. Change default one at a time for each file type. Remove the Edge shortcut, poof you don't see it anymore.

If you uninstall it, at some point a windows update will bring it back.

Losing it won't cause any problems, it's just a pre installed product. Webview2 may have a slight impact

It's very likely that at least some of the techniques listed have worked at some time in some environments. MS apparently finds ways to nullify past techniques. That's not the fault of the "experts" you are so frustrated with. They certainly don't warrant being labeled "idiots".

I am not refering to people in here mosr definitely NOT. The ones I refer to are on the internet who appear to wrork for the site in question. When I visit several sites with the same question, why do they all differ with the answers. The is only one answer, the right one.

Oh god, it's still there - I tried everything. You may as well be trying to get rid of Bing. Why people still use windows is quite beyond me. I changed to linux (what joy!) nearly 20 years ago and no regrets at all - however just occasionally need windows to get the odd printer working or xp for cad. windows 10 is SO slow even on a new pc, presumably because it is hobbled by the likes of Edge and Bing.

Linux trolls are so tedious - yawnnnnnn. We do not go to Linux sites and say Linux is crap.

You say you only use Windows now and then but are obsessed about removing Edge and Bing - that is just ridiculous.

By the way, it is complete BILGE that Windows is so slow on new pc. Also, you do not have to use Edge or Bing and they do not use any CPU resources if you do not use them.

Stop spreading FUD, especially on first post - go to R$dd$t if that floats your boat - not a respectable site like this.

We use Windows because we like it. Edge is a part of it. Just because it's there many of us don't use it. We change the things we can to our liking and accept those things we can't change. Windows does not belong to the user. We only have a license to use it.

I have worked through 3 different ways of uninstaslling Edge but every time it's still there.

IS there a way?
I got it uninstalled early on, but I think Microsoft has now made it impossible to uninstall.

Have you considered risk of deleting Edge. I have seen cases where people did this and their preferred browser failed. These people were caught in a catch 22 i.e. they could not reinstall their preferred browser as they needed it to do so.

So you would have to install some other browser as a backup, or have a backup on a usb drive etc.

Seems to me it is just easier to leave Edge in place. Nobody forces you to use it.

Of course, all the people who say "do this blah blah blah" never take any reponsibilty if something craps out. People have found removing core apps can have unexpected side effect e.g. updates do not work properly afterwards.

There is no real reason to remove Edge really, other than an attitude of user.
"Seems to me it is just easier to leave Edge in place. Nobody forces you to use it."

Actually, yes, I'm forced to use Edge unless I jump through a gazillion hoops to make Firefox my absolute and total default browser without giving Edge a chance . . .

Click on anything in Widgets and Edge takes over although I have unequivocally made Firefox my default browser with Duck Duck Go my default search engine.

So, I do my best to ignore Edge as much as possible.

I want to apologize.
The process to remove Edge I listed above no longer works. And this, since version 110 (so very recently)
I questioned MS and I was told that the browser was an integral part of the OS and could no longer be removed.
This is because of the addition of msedgewebview2 (widgets) and widget Service that are tied in to the version of Edge.
I can live without Widgets forevermore! Just free me from Edge!

Thank you, @glasskuter! I was hoping to run across something like this . . . Guess I'm gonna go change a gazillion settings to get rid of Edge taking over my preferences.
