Solved VLC Media Player is slow to start these days, anyone else?


I just woke up, and tested VLC again having had it closed all night..
- VLC loaded very slow again...
strange considering that my main boot device is a 1TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe gen 4.
it should be very fast load-speed. and what not.
defragging it is slow though..
but my 2TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe gen is much faster for loading and defragging, although it is used solely for videogame installs.

try Settings > All > Advanced > uncheck Scan for New Plugins

I did however force an upgrade to Windows 11 PRO v24H2 from v23H2.... hmm..

nice, I didn't notice that was there till you mentioned it. ty.
instant open however I will have to wait a while until its unloaded from RAM and it does a cold load.

yeah pretty sure its 24h2 and not vlc, but still worth trying different options. you can also turn off windows defender reputation based to make sure its not being scanned each time it loads

Still not seeing any issue with VLC on Win7, Win10, Win11 or Linux, latest Version 3.0.20.

VideoLan might have an issue within the app update checker and or the back end..
but it says on the website (v3.0.21) is latest.
I never bother with the in app checker.
