Solved Wake On Lan and S0 power state or alternative wake solution.

I'd like to check something.
Please do bear in mind that I have never used remote working.

You started off by referring to S0 Modern standby in your OP and that's what I kept responding about.

But, towards the end, you clarified that you wanted to be able to turn the computer off and then use WOL remotely.

Well, if the computer is off then neither S0 Modern standby nor S3 Sleep are involved.

If, as I understand it, the computer is off then a WOL-compliant computer & network adapter maintain power to the network adapter so it can listen for the magic packet in order to issue an internal command to turn the computer on.
Neither S0 Modern standby nor S3 Sleep are involved in this string of events.

Having re-read the thread, I do not understand why you were testing WOL during S0 Modern standby at all.

PS Just to be pedantic for a moment, what we have been discussing has been S0 Modern standby not S0.

S0 = On.
S0 Modern standby = On in a very low power state.

I am very sorry for my ignorance. I thought if the PC supports S0, it means WoL problem at all. If the turned-off PC has nothing to do with S0, or S3 then I need to focus somewhere else.

I just tested a different notebook from the same manufacturer (HP) with the same NIC with the same settings and it works. I am starting to be desperate but I am not giving up!

There's no need for any apology.
We all come here with ignoranceses. Mine include WOL, remote working & why Intel-MS etc hate us all so much that they forced S0 Modern standby on us.

In my ignorance, my next step would be to check & compare
- Bios versions
- WOL-related entries in the Bioses
- LAN network adapter driver versions
- LAN network adapter driver settings

I found the problem and it was the most stupid thing. While switching those PCs I needed to do a sew settings on my router - DHCP address reservation and ARP binding. I Googled what is ARP binding and thought I didn't need it because of the DHCP IP reservation. I tried to put ARP binding yesterday again and the problem was solved :) Denis, thank you very much for your help, you tried to help me a lot.

I stumbled on this thread while trying to find answers of my own. I wish i was here earlier to provide a simple solution. Just buy a smart home power plug and have the settings adjusted to boot on AC plugged in. I have that setting in my dell bios, not sure if it available for all.

solution #2 is buy a smart home button pusher bot. around 10 bucks. I have one to push a button to release dog food connected to google. I have tuya or smart life compatible ones, there many made by many chinese brands. They are cheap easy to setup and easy to integrate with alexa and google assistant. well i hope this help someone else in the future if they are stuck and at least this is a easy workaround.

also i think maybe i found an answer for myself. my wake on lan has not worked for a couple of years, but now i think i found a reason. I'm gonna go looked in my router settings.
