Looking at the Tom's Hardware article you posted, it's clear the game itself is the issue. Another reason I'll await a patch before getting.
Looking at that article, I wonder what system they used, and how they tested the game prior to release? I'd also wonder if Starfield isn't the modern-day equivalent of Crysis. Remember, when Crysis came out, many complained the game was too demanding of their systems. Even those with top shelf builds.
I wonder that as well. Though, Jay's Two Cents showed how using a mod to allow DLSS to work natively now vastly improves the game. I've been tempted to try to use the mod, but I'm not sure if the mods can be made for XBox Game Pass version or not.
I will say that, even with the choppiness in some areas (and let me be clear, thus does not occur throughout the game, only during cut scenes and areas with high NPC crowd content). I'm loving the premise of this game. I spent several hours trying to complete some of the final quests, and I've decided that some of the 'Activities' are simply not worth pursuing, even as a completionist, because there are some that just don't really help you in any way, and a few that actually get you into sticky situations.
I just want that Guardian ship! lol.
But, yeah, it does seem to be the new Crysis, for sure.
Anyway, per another game.... did you get the new DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 - Phantom Liberty?
I played about an hour of
Cyberpunk 2077 with a brand new character (basically initial setup, the first scene, the training sequences, and that first actual (scripted) mission saving that woman's life. This was on Sunday before Phantom Liberty was released. I'm gonna take a look at it sometime this week, if I can tear myself away from
Starfield lol.
Yeah, it is the new Crysis from what I have read. My son wasn't expecting top notch performance with his 3800x and 2080 super, but he said it's practically unplayable out of the box on just about the lowest graphics settings.
I'm really surprised. I'm playing it on the rig I have in My computers:
[20gzlc] Validated Dump by THE-BEAST-A (2023-04-19 00:14:28) - MB: MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE (MS-7C34) - RAM: 131072 MB
valid.x86.fr
I'm really surprised he is finding it unplayable, I've got my game set up to use Ultra settings.
A couple of things though.
- I do have gobs and gobs of RAM
- I've forced all game installations onto the 3rd NVMe drive in my system (C:\ is for system, D:\ is for user data, and E:\ is for everthing else, including game installs).
The first is helpful because you naturally can use more RAM, up past 32 GB though is rarely a benefit. Mine is there for VMs, primarily.
But the second is much more helpful, when possible, as the system loads things from one drive, the user settings and game settings are saved and loaded from a second drive, and the game itself loads from a 3rd drive, effectively nixing any possibility of a bottleneck (except that which is written directly into the game by the devs) because, for example, the game does not have to wait on system files to load in queue from the same SSD.
Yes, overkill for sure, especially with these NVMe PCIe generation 4 drives. Still, though, I think it's why I'm having such a good time with it whereas many others are not. I'll start monitoring it, but I'm pretty sure my FPS has never dipped below high 30s even in the most populated scenarios, and usually sticks around the high 50s. But I would like to see it much higher, Cyberpunk is pushing the FPS to match my monitor's 144 Hz refresh rate easily, and that, too, is with maxed settings.
I'll try examining my settings more closely and seeing if there is something there that is possibly contributing to my decent playability that he might be able to make use of.
