What would you like to see in Windows 12?

This thread is back because people are already done with Windows 11 and are hoping Windows will do better next time.

i would like to see all the known problems, faults and system errors currently in Windows dealt with and a reduction in the size of Windows after install.
which would mean removal of everything that isnt needed for the operating system to run. any required programs can be added by the user at a later date as and when required by that user.
in other words a very minimal install without anything Windows doesn’t need for the system to run securely.
something along the lines of a Ubuntu minimal install.

it wont happen but when i wake up i shall pinch myself to be sure.

Windows 11 BARELY has a 30% market share and they are working on Windows 12??
I guess Microsoft is working it's way down to a 0% market share

I'm 100% with you on this. I'll even settle for a few of the legacy programs such as PAINT and Notepad and Explorer. There is no good reason it can't be done and the added attraction of customizing one's own PC will be irresistible. Windows Store revenue would sky rocket and everyone would benefit all around. IF Windows kept the price of the bare bones OS reasonable. People who are financially challenged (we're not a rare breed) could still afford a brand new version of Windows and build up their operating systems over time. This could be further facilitated by an annual subscription, say $24.95 a year, and Windows could corner the market once again.

I would agree with this if they actually were forcing you to buy their hardware, but any modern PC with the right components works - even home built machines like mine.

Well, technically, it is not free, though there were more than a couple upgrade paths allowing *many* to get it for free. Like me, who used my own (purchased) TechNet Windows 7 keys to get mine.

But I did address that statement above, too, so, yeah.

The grey market key ordeal could be easily circumvented with an annual subscription to Windows Bare Bones. Free apps could come with ads from the Windows Store. Myself, activation keys were hardly an issue because I'm sitting on a mountain of old, rejected and dejected PCs rescued from their designated land fill designations. I strip out the parts, rebuild, and give fully functional updated PCs to kids. The neighbourhood knows me as the "computer guy". I rekindle interest in young ones for genuine DESK TOP PCs. (Although I have been known to donate the occasional laptop to a child who needs one.) Call me a socialist, but I like to think the more PCs we can keep out of land fills the better off we all will be. Besides, not all families can afford a brand new PC.
