Different versions may have the RED box stuff in different places... but you get the idea.

Start Audacity recording, then start what you want recorded.
When you have what you want, stop Audacity and edit how you like.
You can "cut" any beginning and ending junk afterwards.

Audio was still low but Audacity effects/volume and compression/AMPLIFY solved that in seconds

It's a warning about voices and images of deceased Torres Straight Islanders and Aboriginals. They have traditions and need a warning before choosing to view footage. I'm making some videos from 70's footage of ol' mate David Gulpilil.

I’ve certainly used it, it was infact already installed. I used to make Tracks and intros for my Counterstrike Source server with Audacity. I just wasn’t aware that I could record the desktop sounds. Bonus. (y)

If you need to capture audio only on your PC, use Audacity or other audio recording software. Audacity is free and open source, with advanced audio recording and editing features. However, it is tricky for me to record the system audio and mic at the same time. Try other Windows audio recorders if you want more straightforward solutions. Many recording apps let you quickly capture internal and external audio.

For mixing/patching/routing I use VoiceMeeter (there exist other similar tools). It helps route specific apps or signals to a single channel, which you can then record. If you need effects along the way, this is possible too. Just route to another channel first to add the effect and then route that to the main output channel.

These are my notes on Audacity (from a while back admittedly) as I use Audacity quite a bit. It might help someone.

To record from browser...

Using Windows WASAPI. This disables record level in Audacity and recording is independent of PC volume setting. This is a preferred option as the process is digital throughout.

1/ Windows WASAPI
2/ Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio Loopback)
3/ Turn OFF Windows Sounds for recording. See '4' below.
4/ If the on-line source has volume setting then turn this to maximum.

Using Stereo Mix. This enables record levels and sound is now influenced by PC volume control.

1/ Enable Stereo Mix in speaker icon. Go to speaker icon, right click and select 'Sounds'. Goto 'Recording' and enable Stereo Mix.
2/ Enable Windows Direct Sound in Audacity.
3/ Turn volume to max and record level to suit.
4/ Turn App Sounds to minimum. Right click speaker icon and select 'Sound' and then 'Sounds' from the options. Select 'No Sound' from the    dropdown. Re enable when finished.

System tray settings (speaker icon)...

Right click tray icon and select Volume Mixer. Select 'Applications' and 'System Sounds'

Playback = Speaker set as default.
Record   = Stereo Mix as default.
