I'm on a stand alone computer, no network, no router.
I've been reading about NetBIOS over Tcpip for ages... and there doesn't seem to be any consensus on whether it's evil or benign.

So what does ElevenForum think about this?

Note: In Win 11 it's called: "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" in Services.


And ofc, the On/Off toggle, is buried...

Yeah... mine was enabled. I disabled it on the WINS tab.
Also, I don't use email clients. I just get my email online.

I disable it since XP, I believe it was mostly needed by aDSL connection.

That's what made me think of it the other day. I remembered it was considered bad juju in the XP days.
When I disabled it on the WINS tab... it changed the registry entry (for the related LAN chip) to 2.

My motherboard has two LAN chips. One Realtek and one Intel. I use the Intel one.
