Besides the possible watermark, there isn't anything really new here.

Not really. I just hope they replace the hardware requirement blocks in the ISO with a simple warning screen. I don't want to have to bypass the requirements every time I want to do a fresh install.

The weird thing about this is that I've been running Windows 11 on various unsupported computers for years and I've never seen this.
I have 2 unsupported Notebooks that I've put Win11 on with the single-file change that was posted in forums but one is back to Win10 and the other is running Linux Mint. I had hardware-cloned the drives then can readily change when desired.

I've got a .bat file to rid the watermark. The rest we'll just wait and see. MS has been saying this since day 1.

Continuing to use Windows 11 on incompatible hardware may void support and warranty.
Never, really never in the about 35 years I am using Microsoft operating systems and almost 30 Years use of Microsoft Office (at least Word), I have ever used direct support of the company or it's representatives. Warranty? That's a big word, but in practice you'll have to accept the problems that occur when MS decides to change good-working operating systems.

All the help I got in that time came from other experienced people, either (when Internet did not exist) collegues with more experience or later on from the Internet. Forums like this one are a big help when having problems with Windows. If you search the Internet for a certain problem and happen to find a question on a MS site, very often it's a standard reply, helping nothing and nobody.

So I would never bother at all about "void support and warranty".

I didn't realize that there was a warranty on Windows.

As regards support, I've used it. The first line support is outsourced, apparently off the North American continent. I usually have no trouble with the accents I encounter, but the techs appear to be mostly script readers. I've had trouble getting the techs to understand my questions, because they usually involve information I couldn't find on the Web or in forums. Such things usually aren't included in their scripts. If they don't have a canned response, I've suspected that I've been given a made-up answer to get me off the call. Frustrating.

According to the page source code it was last updated on 12 November 2024
I'm too ignorant to check HTML source code.

My only datum is that my unsupported laptop (Gen6 CPU; otherwise complaint) hasn't begun to display a watermark, under 26100.2454.

I'd place a small (5¢) bet that there'll be a minor Registry hack to hide the watermark. For those who can't live with it.

I look forward with a little schadenfreude to next October. ;-)

I have to correct myself for not getting support from Microsoft.

There has been a time (some years ago), that I have been called by the Microsoft helpdesk rather regularly. They had discovered that my PC had several errors and wanted to help me repairing it. When I asked how they could know, they pointed at the Windows log and see, lots of errors they mentioned indeed were in the log! So they really did know about what was going on in my system.

I usually have no trouble with the accents I encounter
They had accents too, which were hardly to understand for me as Dutchman. Some accent from India mostly!

That was about the only period MS offered me help, but I did not accept it. :D

The MSN article is a rehash of Neowin’s (ugh), and Neowin’s article says the updates to the support page are minor.

Underlining is mine…

“Neowin noticed that recently, the company updated a related support page that guides users on how to proceed with installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices. A small correction in that disclaimer message was made as the earlier version of it missed the words…”

And then an update to the section about Recovery.

I don't think this news story is all that interesting. Nothing much that is new here.

As for MSN and Neowin, hardly the gold standards in IT/tech news. :smirk:
