OS
Windows 11 version 22H2
I started the download at 8:35am and when I went to bed at 10:30pm the dang thing was not finished with 98% done. I left my computer on all night and in the morning at 8am I checked it and it was 20% installed . it finished in three minutes..

My update takes a long time too and installs in seconds... what can I change in my system to increase the Microsoft downloads

Try running the Troubleshooter for Windows Update:
Settings>System>Troubleshoot>Other troubleshooters>Windows Update and click on Run.

It might find something and will automatically fix the problem.

Your maximum possible download speed is limited to the speed your ISP provides on your broadband connection. Check what speed your ISP is supposed to be providing then check if you are achieving close to that here:

The only way to increase that speed would be to switch to another faster ISP, or a faster package from your current ISP (if one is available).

The download to install the 20H2 Feature Update is more that 3GB. If the broadband from your ISP is slow, then that would inevitably take a long time to download. For example, at 10Mbps it would take at least 40 minutes to download. Other factors outside your control would be the speed the MS download server sends the data, there's nothing you can do at your end to increase that.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I have 350 M b/s download. Sometimes a download is very fast and sometimes is slow. Most of the time is related to the source.
MS has released a new version and millions of computers are downloading at the moment. MS has to share the bandwidth with those computers = slow download.
Another reason is that, if the computer that is downloading enter sleep mode, it halts the download.

I do understand it ..My computer does not enter sleep mode but to have lots of people downloading it I can see why its so slow. I received a notice in my updates to download it.. But one thing I do have it and it's a bit faster and there is a bit more control so, I feel I am good
