according to Microsoft, you can use the above 2 commands to get rid of those files
Does not work for me.

installed it on an asus today too. upgrade 23H2>24H2... update cache cleared successfully on that one too.

you can try this, depending on how far you want to go

It's a bug in 26100.1872 and 26100.1882. It wasn't present in 26100.1742.

I suspect that the space isn't actually used, but I haven't seen that verified.
You are correct. I didn't notice that with 26100.1742, but noticed that it appeared when installed 26100.1882 update, and yeah, it seems that it is a false space report.

OK, the 8.63gb has returned. But I now know what is causing it. If I cleanup the component store using
Code:
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
When I do a disk cleanup after, the 8.63gb has returned and cannot be deleted.

I restored my image to a previous one with Macrium, no 8.63gb found with disk cleanup. As soon as I cleaned the component store (with or without the resetbase enabled) the 8.63gb returns. Tested it twice.

So I can only conclude that not all the update files in component store are getting deleted. This is either a permissions issue or a bug in Win11 24H2.

Previously, I was unable to run sfc /scannow without finding errors but now, no system errors found.

I just did a totally clean install of 24H2 for a Home license on the ASRock A320M/ac build with Ryzen 7 3700X, and it's working well.

I only saw SFC talk about corruption on the first run, because of the same Bluetooth file bug that 22H2 and 23H2 has, so it does not look as bad as what some people are reporting.

I have uninstalled Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5043178). With it, I get SFC errors everytime. Without it, no errors.

But then, when I try to clean Component Store I get the following error message.

After uninstalling KB5043178, I also get 6 security entries that won't uninstall in Windows Update.

I made a blank folder called Temp in my C drive. I booted into macrium pe, entered the following in cmd prompt:
DISM /Image:C:\ /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /ScratchDir:C:\Temp

It ran but it like instantly completed after only going to 70%

Then I booted back into Windows and ran:

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

I still have the exact same issues with repeating sfc /scannow fixed corruption and 8.63gb of undeletable update cleanup files.

Can you describe exactly the process you took to fix it on your side please? Or what I did wrong in the steps above ?

Edit: ah I see now - this was all after you rolled back KB5043178. Will try that first. Thanks!

Have that same issue on my Windows 11 Pro Desktop

No Matter what i do, that Windows Update Cleanup stays there still

did update via Upgrade Assistant from MS site

Otherwise its working well

Despite SFC always showing Found corrupt files, and successfully repaired them lol

**thats ok when i upgrade my boot NVMe in the future to true PCie 4.0 model, i'll do a clean install of Windows 11 Pro 24H2 then

Debated on adding my old Samsung 970 Evo Plus as Temp boot drive, making this Kingston NV2 1TB as Game M.2 til Christmas, but not 100 percent sure i wanna go thru all that or not at the moment lol

Plan on getting 2 Pcie 4.0 M.2s @ Christmas lol--Hopefully Samsungs

i upgraded 3 straight from mounting the iso from microsoft's site and running setup.exe and none of them had this issue. seems to be tied to the upgrade assistant/wu mostly

i upgraded 3 straight from mounting the iso from microsoft's site and running setup.exe and none of them had this issue. seems to be tied to the upgrade assistant/wu mostly

I'm going to presume that you didn't lose any of your files when upgrading to 24H2 via ISO? I upgraded to 23H2 via this method and had no problems, lost nothing (although, of course, I always back up everything on an external hard drive).

You’re on 26100.1882 after installing CU KB5043178 via windows update? Because these issues don’t show up until then

well if doesn't fix with future update, then i'll just fix it later @ Christmas when i upgrade the Boot M.2 and possibly add the 2nd M.2 For the Games

No issues on those 3 machines. no files lost. if you havent deleted previous win versions from cache yet you can just go back to 23h2 and re-upgrade to 24h2 via iso method and see if clears that up for you

Running it within the windows environment is just an in place upgrade.

Option Two


Mount the ISO or extract the ISO and run and from a folder or use a USB. Run Setup.exe
As long as you select the correct options it will just upgrade not reset

And DON’T install the Cumulative Update. It will be added in a couple of days on Patch Tuesday.
