Windows 11, 24H2 update, doesn't appear (despite global launch in early October)!

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

That safeguard hold is to prevent you having issues with certain installed games after installing 24H2. The hold will be lifted when the issues with these games have been resolved, either by Microsoft, the games developers, of both working together.

Thanks so much for the input. Lets hope it will get sorted soon then.

So this morning the windows update appeared and offers me 24H2 as available to download and install.... Checked in registry editor and the previous GatedBlockIf has been removed, now says "none".

Anyone has any wisdom to share ? Should I go ahead or wait ?

Checked in registry editor and the previous GatedBlockIf has been removed, now says "none".
Not exactly clear to me what you should archieve by changing a value GatedBlockIf in your registry.

The method that is recommended in this forum to keep 23H2 as long as you wish is described here:
I indeed did that some time ago...
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"ProductVersion"="Windows 11"
"TargetReleaseVersion"=dword:00000001
"TargetReleaseVersionInfo"="23H2"

... and still did not get any suggestions for updating to 24H2.

At the moment I would like to do it, I would remove those registry mods again.
Until now I dont see any advantages of 24H2 yet, so I'll stick somewhat longer to 23H2.

Sorry you misunderstood me. I did NOT change the registry, instead I checked my registry as soon as i saw windows update offered me to update, and realised that the previous GatedBlockId (that had something to do with Ubisoft games etc) wasn't/isn't there anymore.

I am not in a rush to update, system works fine. Main reson to do it is to take advantage of WiFi 7 support in 24H2; but not at the expense of stability etc.

Yes, behind the scenes your Windows Update regularly checks for compatibility and updates the TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators accordingly. Your gaming related safeguard IDs: 54580160 and 54437462 were declared by Microsoft as 'resolved' on 17th January.

Select games might stop responding on Windows 11, version 24H2 devices

I am not a gamer, but I have been on 24H2 since October with no significant issues.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Any particular changes that the 24H2 changes or reverts that I should be looking out for after updating ?

There's been a number of issues posted on forums, just need to do a search like on this one for them. Not having any issues I've just scanned them but not really delved into much reading yet.
