Ok. If you upgrade main machine to Edu, then you need to downgrade backup to Pro?
Is the Edu key a multi-user?
Main system upgrade from Windows 11 Pro to Windows 11 Education using the change key option. All good. No fuss no muss


Took about 2 seconds to activate. Never even asked or complained about the other activation

That said, the other machine is going back to Windows 10 Pro since I need a Windows 10 machine anyway. Not for specific hardware or software issues (though the processor isn't supported - i7-7700K) but for training/help purposes.
