Windows 11
I just built a new computer and installed Windows 11 the other day and am quite happy with it but have only run into one problem.

The problem is that when I lock the computer it locks properly and then shuts the monitor off after one minute but after the monitor shuts off it won't come back on again. The computer is still running but the monitor just doesn't want to come back on. Any ideas?

A simple (I hope not simple-minded) idea: I'd shut down my computer (the monitor already being off), wait a minute, and then try to turn on the monitor and then boot the computer, or if that fails, I'd try to boot the computer and then turn on the monitor.

Once you get it all running, you might look for a setting that says something like "automatically power off the monitor after computer is locked" and turn the danged thing OFF. Turning off the monitor after locking or turning off the computer is, after all, a trivial task.

Welcome to Elevenforum.

To fix this, open Run, by clicking CTRL + R. Then type cmd, and click CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER. Click yes, to open Command prompt as admin.

Copy and paste the following in.
Batch:
powercfg.exe -attributes SUB_VIDEO 8EC4B3A5-6868-48c2-BE75-4F3044BE88A7 -ATTRIB_HIDE

And then click enter.

Next, go to Power settings program and find the new option under Change Plan Settings, named Console Lock Display Off Timeout.

Welcome to the forum, @Thunderhorse!

What James didn't tell you that you might need to know is this:

If you use the top of the Start menu to search for Power Plan, you'll get a bunch of settings, but not one that affects your situation with the lock and the monitor. If you use the command line that James gave you, with "-ATTRIB_HIDE" at the end, it will UNhide the setting you need and you'll be able to see it in the Power settings.

I didn't know that you couldn't see that setting until you UNhid it, but James did (or maybe just found out :clap: ;-) ).

So do the command line thing, fix the setting, and you should be all set.

If you hit any snags, c'mon back and tell us about it. Good luck.

Found out, but through some research, it’s better than no help

Thank you for your extensions to my post, really do appreciate them as they not only help the poster but also me for future advice.

More technical info:

To undo this, and get rid of the option again, you replace the - from ATTRIB_HIDE with a +. Really, instead this should be +ATTRIB_SHOW and - for hiding, I don’t really get it.

I will edit my post and add your information, thanks!

@MisterArbuckle:

Looks like the same behavior, but we can probably assume Thunderhorse is not using Adrenalin. I think the solution @James and I have given him will fix his problem completely. I hope so, anyway.

Thanks, and welcome to the forum. It's a great place to learn and a great place to share. (y)(y)(y)

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'll give the command line thing a try and see if that solves the issue. And yes I am using the Adrenaline drivers from AMD (the 23.5.2 drivers) so it might be an issue then with the drivers. I'll give the command line thing a go and get back to you.

@MisterArbuckle :

My sincere apologies. And yes, I do know what "assume" does, but I forgot for a moment.

Is what you're describing the same issue described in this thread? Monitor Fails To Resume from Sleep S3 Mode with 23.2.2 & 23.2.1 Adrenalin

I have the same issue with a fairly similar setup. I ended up just setting my PC to not have my monitor idle/sleep.
This fixed it! Apparently Disabling ULPS in regedit fixes the issue. I checked a couple of times now and have had no problems. Thanks everyone for the help! I'll mark the thread as solved. I also did the command line thing as well just so I have that option if I chose to use it.
