Yes , so did I .........still 3 times as long , without pass/pin !
So I keep using a pincode for a faster boottime................
btw, will have to get used to the pincode , coz tried really everything , nothing fixed my boottime , without pass/pin.............!!

Apart from the SSD system disc I have 3 x 2TB Seagate drives which I bought used when I built my system two years ago. I now tested to set all three Offline and rebooted and as I suspected, the boot time from Beep to login screen came down to 20 seconds. When set the first disc Online again it took 30 seconds for it to appear in Explorer file list. Maybe you can see from the CrystalDiscInfo clip whether my disc needs replacing?

I don't see anything obviously bad in the values. However, if you set the priority in the bios as I had stated, the boot time should not be affected regardless of it being connected at boot or not.

I would replace it though as drives are quite cheap, you can always turn it into an enclosure if you want to make it a nice external drive.

OK, I now got two other 2TB used discs, one with zero seek error rate and one with low values. I'm now down to 30 seconds boot time. I've ordered a M.2 SSD from Amazon and another SSD 2.5". With those in the system the boot will be a lot faster - I hope.

OK, today I installed the Crucial PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD of 500GB. I created a partition and formatted it which took 15 minutes. After that everything I do on the PC takes ten times longer than before. I downloaded a special driver for it and installed it with a .msi file but the SSD doesn't seem to pick it up - it still has a driver from 2016. Is just that the driver info in Device Manager is wrong or never changes? Anyway, what is wrong with my system, is there something I have missed? Help!

I read on the net that zeroing an SSD can take some time. In the guide for my mobo it says that "When SATA/PCIe mode M.2 device is installed, the M.2 socket shares bandwidth with the SATA6G_5/6 ports". I have SATA port 5 connected so that could be something to address. That doesn't mean the system should be sluggish. In CrystalDiscInfo the new M.2 SSD is not see at all. Is there some crucial thing you need to do which I have overlooked? Anything in BIOS?

The M.2 socket is PCIe. The M.2 socket shares bandwidth with SATA port 5/6 but it shouldn't stop th system.

Boot times will be longer due to PCIe lane sharing!
So turn off Sata port 5/6 and just use ports 1/4.
That's how I setup my bios.

Boot time is not a problem - it is now 30 seconds. The M.2 SSD disc is visible in Device Manager and in Explorer but not in CrystalDiscInfo and Crucial Storage Executive.

Use standard MS drivers for the M.2 drive.
Can you show us a screen shot of the "Disk Management"

Right now the M.2 SSD has disappeared from Device Manager and Disk Management. When I get them back tomorrow I'll send a screen shot.

I read on the net that zeroing an SSD can take some time
DO NOT ZERO A SSD DRIVE. This will wear the life out of it rapidly!

You only need to initialize it to be able to use it.

Zero a drive is only when you need to make data very hard to recover, as in selling the drive to someone.

I don't understand why you keep ignoring my advice about the bios.....

I just assumed I was zeroizing it. I did in fact a quick format but it took 15 minutes. Today running Disk Management the SSD drive came up as Not allocated with a question to initialize it which I tried to do. It failed. I rebooted and ran Disk Management again. Connecting to Virtual Disk Service took 45 seconds and Loading config info took 3 minutes. Then the SSD was there as Online and Healthy. The disk doesn't come up in CrystalDiskInfo. Here is the new disc in Disk Management (NEW). I'm still wondering why the driver is from 2006 when I have downloaded and installed a driver specifically for the M.2 SSD.

When you open "Device Manager" you need to be looking at "Storage Controllers" for the "Crucial" driver.
