Windows and Devices MVP program explained

 Windows IT Pro Blog:

The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Program recognizes exceptional IT professionals working with Microsoft products who demonstrate technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to improvement. To become an MVP, you must be nominated by a current MVP or a Microsoft employee (more on that below). First, let's go over the benefits of the MVP Program, the requirements for becoming an MVP, and the steps you can take to join this elite group of IT professionals.

What is the Microsoft MVP Program?

The Microsoft MVP Program recognizes exceptional IT professionals for their technical expertise, leadership, public speaking experience, online influence, and commitment to improvement. MVPs are early adopters of new technologies and actively contribute product feedback to Microsoft.

What are the benefits of the Microsoft MVP Program?

Joining the MVP Program offers numerous benefits, including:
  • Official recognition from Microsoft as a Microsoft MVP
  • Access to Microsoft feature previews and related early access resources
  • Invitations to exclusive events and conferences
  • Content creation opportunities
  • A global and diverse community for networking, learning, sharing, and collaborating

Tell me about the Windows and Devices award category

Windows and Devices IT professionals are known for their expertise in Windows, Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and/or Microsoft Surface devices.

Requirements for Windows and Devices MVPs

To qualify for the Windows and Devices award category, you must demonstrate:
  • Broad technical knowledge in at least one of these products: Windows, Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, or Surface
  • A track record of community activity in one or more of the products mentioned above for at least 12 months
  • Strong knowledge in Windows deployment on physical devices, virtual desktops, and/or Cloud PCs; security scenarios; general virtualization; and/or Surface devices
  • Experience in IT or a corporate environment
  • Active engagement across various channels such as forums, blogs, websites, and/or events
In addition to the above, you must demonstrate the ability to be a leader in the community and help others by sharing knowledge, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, and supporting others' growth and learning.

We want to increase gender diversity and achieve wider global representation among MVPs in South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and other areas. We encourage everyone who meets the criteria above to apply!

Hear from our Windows and Devices MVPs!

“Every MVP has a different journey to becoming an MVP. Whether this is because of product group interactions, community speaking, or developing and sharing cool solutions, the main thing is that you, as an individual, have contributed to improving the product and its use.” – Maurice Daly, Windows 365 and Microsoft Intune MVP, Ireland
“Sharing your knowledge, tips and tricks, and tools with the community should be done from a passion of sharing knowledge. Try to be creative and consistent and reach out to other MVPs if you need help or advice.” – Peter Daalmans, Windows 365, Microsoft Intune MVP, Netherlands
“Create the content you like creating and base it on your own unique story. There are always others in similar situations like yourself, and when you write something technical with a personal twist, they will feel seen!” – Simon Binder, Windows 365 and Microsoft Intune MVP, Sweden
“Being a Windows and devices MVP is more than just recognition; it's an opportunity to share knowledge, learn, and collaborate directly with the community and Microsoft. My passion for Windows has led me to explore new features, test Insider builds, and help users get the most out of their devices. One of the best parts of this experience is seeing how our feedback impacts Windows development.” – Maison da Silva, Windows MVP, Brazil

How do I become a Windows and Devices MVP?

To be considered as an MVP, you need to be nominated by either a current MVP or a Microsoft employee. Building connections with individuals in these categories increases your chances of being noticed and nominated.

When attending tech conferences, take the opportunity to introduce yourself to me (Christiaan), Harjit Dhaliwal, Megan Gremmell, or a current Microsoft MVP as potential nominators and share a brief "elevator pitch" highlighting your MVP-worthy credentials.

How is this different from the Microsoft Management Customer Connection Program?

The Microsoft Management Customer Connection Program (Microsoft Management CCP) connects customers directly with Microsoft engineers. It allows participants to share their product experiences, needs, and recommendations, ultimately helping Microsoft create better management and security solutions.

Microsoft Management CCP is not a marketing or support program; it is an engineering program. Engineers engage with customers to better understand user habits, pain points, and recommendations for improvement. These engagements often impact the planning and development cycle long before a solution or feature is released.

IT pros with an NDA can submit a request to join the Microsoft Management CCP.

There were no requirements to be an insider?

Was there a thread last year either in EF or TF about a surprise end to the MVP program?

Yep, the Windows Insider MVP program ended with 2023.

I thought I'd put this one here for the replacement.

WIMVP hasn't restarted. Just ended, and now can join the normal Microsoft MVP program under the "Windows and Devices" category instead.

Insider is not required.
