Windows enterprise and Workstations vs standard Win 11 pro

Not to mention, for support he would have to call in under the enterprise agreement that the license is associated with in order to open a case.
Good Lord! why so much negativity? Can't we all just use the component's for our PC's we want, or the OS's we want? If me having this version is going to keep anyone up all night worrying about this, I'll be happy to just format the SSD I have this on, it won't bother me a bit. I'm just the messenger here, I bought something from an online MS Partner, I didn't know by doing this, the world might come to an end. Please let me know if this becomes to stressful for anyone, I can format it really fast, I certainly don't want anyone to end up with an overload of stress, that could send them to the ER. :-)

It's' not a matter of me trying to be negative. I'm trying to make the point for people that Microsoft won't support you with Enterprise, and people shouldn't purchase a copy of Enterprise because the licenses are not intended for general public consumption. Enterprise licenses are being illegally sold (violating the EULA) and if you are using it, you may find yourself in this predicament. < If none of this bothers you, by all means run whatever you want. Caveat Emptor!

Well, I got it in November of 2023, I guess I should have known all this information before hand, but I didn't. Remember, some of us here are still learning, I'm guessing this is what this forum is for, for the unlearned of the Windows 11 operating system/systems.

All of us are still learning, it's an ever changing world. I just like to make sure that others don't get into the same situation, unless they understand that it's a situation in the first place. It's all good.

This site here does a good job breaking out the differences between the versions 11 Pro versus 11 enterprise.

The updated antivirus should prevent attacks exploiting new vulnerabilities that are not patched by a security update. That's the whole point of using an updated Antivirus, otherwise I would completely disable it and speedup my computer.
As for extended support, you don't need it, just keep your antivirus updated.

Repeating the same horrible advice over and over again doesn't somehow make it correct.

While keeping Windows Defender (or whatever other Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware software you use) updated is obviously a key part of keeping a system secure, it is in no way a proper substitute for actual security updates (that fix vulnerabilities in the OS & and mitigate hardware vulnerabilities at the OS level).

You're espousing an oversimplified view of something that you don't truly understand.

Is that illusion that security updates protect you that make people less careful and more vulnerable. Yes, they patch security holes, but if you don't read where you click and you just click OK to get rid of a popup window, it is a matter of time before you are infected. The best security system is no match for the human factor. Also don't try to call Microsoft for support using an Enterprise version at home. Most likely you are not going to be helped and even worse they may even take legal action.

This is interesting, take legal action against who, the buyer or the seller? Microsoft sure isn’t going out of their way to shut down the sellers of these enterprise editions, they’re all over the internet, claiming to be Microsoft Partners. Maybe you should help us dummies that have fell for this, by calling Microsoft and reporting them, this would be a big help for the clueless people buying these versions.

Not entirely "clueless". When you see an Enterprise license that cheap you suspect something is wrong, but you do it anyway. So you have a little part of responsibility too. You are not completely innocent. I am not judging, I would probably do the same, but I wouldn't be surprised if it proved not to be legit. Chances are Microsoft won't bother as they don't have any means to detect Enterprise licenses used in non-business environment, unless of course someone tells them.

PS: I believe it is better for Microsoft to use a genuine Enterprise license at home than use an illegally activated copy of Windows 11 Home/Pro.

I've always been surprised at how easy it seems to be for these companies to stay around with all of these shady super low cost license keys. These places have been around forever, and they never seem to go away. For what it's worth, it's probably not worth Microsoft going after them....they make the majority of their money in the Enterprise realm, with EA's and software assurance deals. Ton's of windows licensing to OEM's on the computers they sell, etc.

I wouldn't be the least bit concerned of MS ever taking action towards you. However, you may have a hard time getting support if you ever needed it. (chances are you wouldn't). They might pressure you into a legit license before helping you out.

Whatever the "rights and wrongs" of the situation -- and most of us who DO have Enterprise - have a legit version from work - often as a "Free incentive" to test it at home in your own time to take the load of their I.T admins.

I shudder to think whoever AT HOME calls Ms in any way whatsoever for support apart from perhaps to "activate by phone" or maybe some issues with their hardware - Xbox etc) - and even in that case for Windows activation it's a "robot" and not a human that guides you through that process -- also probably redundant with digital licensing etc.

Any Forum users here who actually call Ms for support for basic Windows !!! (Home / domestic users only -- corporates usually have other service deals with Ms).

Cheers
jimbo

What's really sad is, some of the responses some receive here, we should all remember that probably 90% "could be a little or or a little less" of the folks that come here, are mostly clueless, "if" you compare them to the computer experts. Humans always tend to look at themselves when comparing their knowledge to others, thinking everyone else should know what they know, some may even think they all should be like them, these humans would be called narcissists. If these forums were developed for the experts, my guess is, the membership would be a lot less. Rather legit or shady, what MS is allowing, by not going after these companies is self-incrimination. Yes, if you're in an IT job, my guess is, you would have less of a defense. If you're the average Joe, and only have limited knowledge "which most do" of these operating systems, and you purchase one of these licenses, my guess is, if this were to turn into a court matter, they would be pursuing the seller, not the buyer, because proving the sellers knowledge vs the buyers knowledge, the sellers evidence is going to be based on facts, it's all out there for the world to see. I do appreciate all the information provided here, I just feel it could have been presented by some in a kinder manner, meaning that you should be conscious of your own manners, and try your best to avoid offending or hurting someone else by your words or behavior.

Relax. As I said Microsoft doesn't bother, unless someone specifically reports you as an offender of the EULA. It is far more beneficial to let you use genuine Enterprise licenses at home than illegally activated copies of Windows 11 Home or Pro.

Funny fact: Windows 95 were spread and took most of user base because Microsoft turned a blind eye on illegal copies. And of course because unlike Apple they let any computer run Windows 95 (not only IBM PCs but also IBM clones from other manufacturers). Apple tries to restrict Mac OS to Apple made computers and loses market share. I believe they should also let any compatible computer run Mac OS and improve compatibility with devices and applications. Mac OS would have much more market share.
