Solved Windows Hypervisor Platform?

Type this in command prompt?:

C:\>bcdedit /copy {current} /d "No Hyper-V"
The entry was successfully copied to {ff-23-113-824e-5c5144ea}.

C:\>bcdedit /set {ff-23-113-824e-5c5144ea} hypervisorlaunchtype off
The operation completed successfully.

Thanks.
you type first line and it will reply with something like {ab-12-234-......}.

You type second line but instead of {ff-23-113.....}, you type {ab-12-234... ..} i.e. text in reply from 1st command

On the link posted, correct me:

1. IF I want to run using VMWare player I should select No Hyper V option?
2. And if want to use W11 VM, choose W11 instead of Windows 8.1?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Turning it off cannot be redone...if correct, than is of no use. Maybe would give Vbox a try.

Would purchasing the Pro resolve the issue?

Hi there
On VMplayer a load of options can be enabled but you have to manually edit the VM's vmx file (or config) file because a load of options that are available on the GUI in the workstation don't appear as options in the VMplayer GUI.

The easiest way to see what should be in the config file is to get the 30 day trial of vmware workstation, create a VM with the functions you want and then open the config file up with a text editor and copy the relevant entry to your vmplayer one. For instance boot to firmware is missing in the free version but you can enable it -- it only works once and if you need to boot again to firmware you have to re-edit the config file.

E.g

-- for VMPlayer users you need to "poodlefake the menu" so edit the .vmx file (it's the VM configuration file for that specific VM if unsure what the .vmx file is) with a text editor and add the line

bios.forceSetupOnce = "TRUE".

If this line already exists change the FALSE to TRUE.

note this changes it (on Vmplayer) back to false again after one boot so to repeat you need to change it again for next boot to firmware.

also to give you more time at boot options add this line to the .vmx file
bios.bootDelay = "xxxx"
"xxxx" is time in millisecs.

cheers

Thanks @Kari , for the correction, you are another expert, which this forum is full of...

1. Updated to Pro.

2. This command would give options at bootup to run with or without Hyper V...…correct?

3. If I am using the Pro's VM I should boot with W11...….correct?

4. And if using VMWare player, run with Hyper-V.....correct?

Thanks again.

Hello @jimbo45,

Thanks for the expert reply. Too intense, but would give it a try, and if I fail would require your expertise.

1. So I need to downland the Work station Pro trial vs. Player, to make these changes.....correct?

2. I fail to understand why after each reboot into firmware.....what firmware?

3. If it's already False as you posted, why False again...…or a typo error?

4. What approx. should be the delay in time (milllisecs) do you give since you are the expert, have never used a VM...….

5. Should I check all Hyper-V options in the Windows features?

6. Should WHP be checked during installation of VMWare?

Sorry to be asking simple questions, do realize am a newbie to W11 and VMs.

Thanks again and all the best!
Regards!

PS: I see approx. 69/70 background processes and 98 Windows processes in the Task Manager, is that normal?

What amazes me is seeing at @Kari , system specs running W11 on 6 gigs of memory and am on 16.....do you experts optimize, debloat W11?

I feel this thread has been taken completely out of context. Just to clarify some points which were mentioned earlier:
  1. No, you don't need the Pro version of Windows. The Home edition is more than enough for most users.
  2. You do not need the Pro version of Windows to run VMWare or any other hypervisor program unless you wish to use Hyper-V.
  3. The message from your first post is not an error message, it's a warning message and can be ignored. It will not affect your ability to boot a virtual machine.
  4. I would recommend at least 4GB of RAM if you intend to run a Windows 10/11 virtual machine and then around 70GB of space so you're able to install updates if you so wish.
  5. You don't need to change any configuration files or mess around with the firmware settings. Just leave them.

Had I known, probably won't have updated..... But the updating wasn't expensive.
Care to configure VMware player remotely?

Thanks.
