Windows Live Mail problem

Ruth, I think this page will explain your problem -

I suggest using webmail until the issue with Mail is resolved - hope you can recall your login details. If not it might be better to change provider.

The default is to use Webmail i.e. use your Web Browser to access your Mail Account.

Windows 11 come with the Mail App which is kept up to date, which I think is what you are using.
I use about 5 mail accounts on it and proved reliable for about 9 years.

You do have to make sure that Account settings are correct. One simple mistake, or an unticked box and it won't work.
If it does not, remove the Account and start again.

They do give 2 outgoing ports.

"Sent from Mail for Windows" can be removed by going to Settings > Signature > Use an email signature > Off.

Ionos does not supply sufficient up to date detail, however you can deduce from instructions for Outlook.

There are other Email Clients you can try at your leisure, free and paid for.

I've tried doing that (and in fact managed to update the IMAP/SMTP with their recommended settings, but still I can't send out emails. The provider has told me that the fault lies with Mail!
I have the same problem with Mail. Thunderbird works flawlessly. It might be overwhelming at first till you can wrap your brain around it. The temporary workaround is to just log in over the web and dont use any mail client till you get it worked out

I'm hopeless with technology and new to this forum (or any forum!), but I'm really desperate. After 11 years of using WLM for emails, my outgoing messsages are now getting stuck in my outbox. I run my business from this laptop and rely on mails being sent - I've never before had this problem with WLM.

Strangely enough, my email domain provider, IONOS, has just introduced a new encryption security system (TLS1.2). I've updated my incoming and outgoing IMAP/SMTP ports to the ones they specify, but still my mails can't be sent. I've checked on their website and it says that Windows 11 supports the TLS1.2 version. Can anyone help an old person who is pretty useless at computer-speak?

Thanking you in advance.
Just throwing stuff out there to see what sticks . . . Make sure you run the app "as administrator" I just fixed Eudora Mail 5 minutes ago by doing that after struggling with it for WEEKS . It was working on my Windows 7 but I could not get it to work on Win-10 or 11 till now
I was only able to receive and not send till I set it to run as admin.

If they’ve increased security then they may now require an app specific password or the authenticate the account. Have you tried deleting the account & creating it again?

I was just coming here to add that same comment. Old email apps need that and you have to look to see if you can enable it on the providers web page

Free email clients ...
Thunderbird (multiple accounts)
eMClient (up to 2 email addresses, free)

Your ISP doesn't have to "recognise" an email client program, email clients are programs separate from your ISP and no different from any other software installed on your device.

EDIT Indeed IONIS offer instructions on how to set up a separate email client

And they offer the advantage of the user being able to change/add/correct settings for email accounts from ISPs and web based mail. MS Outlook has historically difficulties in handling some ISP accounts (with unusual mail server settings), as well as some web based mail (especially Gmail settings requirements). I doubt whether MS Outlook 2013 (as euqlaly outdated as WLM) is a viable solution for you (too much technical tinkering to get it to work) even if you had it

However, you will have to go through a learning curve no matter what. In the meantime, it might be just as easy to access your email through your provider's webmail site portal.
