Windows Security Health Crash after Windows 11 22H2 Upgrade

That's very strange. Can you try Policy Plus on another PC with Windows 11 Home? Are you sure you don't have one of those invasive AV preventing system changes...?

@cta62 workaround worked fine here on my Windows 11 Pro 22H2. 3 days and no crashes anymore when I open Defender or try a manual file/dir scan.
Don't have another PC with Windows 11 sadly and don't have any other AVs installed.

I have seen numerous updates and I always wonder.. I see that: Windows Security-no actions required watching me, and I wonder... I wonder what happens if I click it and delve into security processor and the like, is now fixed?
After all the updates to security platform and security health, maybe it's fine? I mean I ran the repair? I deleted the data? Probably works fine now.
So I just clicked it and it looked okay, clicked security processor looked okay, clicked lots more, it was fixed.

Pressed the <back button and all the all the green ticks have changed to - unknown!

For a good few minutes I was really hopefull. I guess they can't fix it?
I never have anything other than Windows security and I'm on 12th Gen Intel so nothing strange :(

This is odd.
I have Canary, Dev, Beta, and Release channel versions on multiple machines and never have experienced this.
Don't get me wrong, I am glad but I wonder why you are seeing this issue.
That rules out any possible suggestion to help from me, which is frustrating.

It first started last summer with the 'update to Windows Defender antimalware platform 1.0.2207 (can't remember the rest of the version number). Since then the Security app crashes when the TPM is enabled.
Do you have an active TPM?

I bet.. If I opened up your security app I could get it to crash! A few mates, 'never had the problem'
I think that's why it's not fixed, it's better, but after the whole wrong version installed and people looking for resolutions there's absolutley no need to poke around in there.
Mines been fine for 8 months. Unless I go in there randomly clicking stuff, even that's okay until I back out, viewing the TMP is certainly the trigger to me. The reason I built a new PC for Windows 11, like a dope

I think that's because you can't click it if it's hidden! Mine hasnt crashed in over 6 months, even then everything showed the correct data, until I rapidly pressed the back buttton (I think on the third attempt?)
I guess that's pretty fixed for Microsoft?

No has not been fixed yet. Before (when not hidden) it often crashed on manual (i.e. from explorer menu) file virus check or opening the Security Center and entering virus check section to start a new scan... Now I can do all these actions without a single crash, since I applied the workaround on May 7 2023.
Strange it doesn't work for other users, as I was able to verify this even on a fresh Win11 installation, so it seems a universally working workaround... if you didn't mess up with other things in your OS at least.

This problem suddenly started on 21 June!! Defender repeatedly crashed. Also unknown appearing on Windows "View Security Defender dashboard" So I had not seen this thread! detailing the many problems  My version is 25305.9000.0

I did enable Hyper-V and Hyper-V platform in Windows features, that did make a difference! not so many crashes now (y)
So now I wait for a fix :( while I reinstall some of my software to fix Defender Firewall issues :censored:

Edit: I did install Malwarebytes to scan in case I had been infected somehow! result was clean.

I can confirm that the problem is still not solved.
In the meantime, I'm using the May 07 tip in gpedit.msc to hide the "device security zone" header and I no longer have a crash when using Windows Defender.

But Microsoft, make a fix !

After the install I had : Windows Security Service service terminated unexpectedly crash.
I was away from the PC at the time of the crash. I've not opened Defender to see if its working or still crashes.

I got that update KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2306.10002) earlier, but I'm still getting errors in Reliability Monitor! Just like TheVisitor, Security Centre crashed after the update! I updated to Windows 11 about 3 weeks ago.. If I don't open Security Centre, then there are no problems.

Windows Security Service service terminated unexpectedly crash.
I did too, stamped for July 6th. I got sus and wondered if I saw the "smoking gun" of Microsoft getting hacked.

It was only logged, there was no Windows crash, TMK.

I'm so glad I've found this thread. Hiding the device security area prevents the crash, but as people have stated, it is not an actual solution. In a few days it will be a full year since the problem started appearing. Happy anniversary!

I wonder if TPM attestation has anything to do with it. It is not supported on my system.

I wonder if 23H2 will fix this problem. It is expected to be released soon.
