Windows update installed windows 11 on unsupported CPU I7-7700HQ

I am totally confused. Windows Update installed Windows 11 on unsupported CPU I7-7700HQ. Previously I always got the message that my hardware is not supported. Should I or can I revert back to Windows 10?

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Generally an 8th gen or higher Intel cpu is required, but there are a very few 7th gen ones in the list.




It could be that your i7-7700HQ has just been added to the list of supported systems and CPUs as the i7-7820HQ was.


Whether supported or not, Windows 11 runs well on almost anything and will get all cumulative updates. I've been running 11 on my System Two with its 1st gen i5 since 11 was first released. Many others have found the same.


If you want to go back to Windows 10, then you have 10 days after the upgrade to Windows 11 in which you can do so.

Have you signed up as a Windows Insider? Your 23H2 22635.2483 is an Insider Beta build. The rules about supported systems are a little different for Insiders.

I kind of thought it might be because I was a windows insider. I think I turned that feature off because I was always getting the message that my cpu was not compatible. I must of turned it back on & it finally downloaded Windows 11. I will see what happens. It seems to be stable. I could never understand why my processor was not on the list even though my system specs were more than compatible.

Well, if it's still less than 10 days since you upgraded to 11 and you want to try it for a while, then you can extend the time in which you can go back to your previous OS by up to 60 days.

I was given a Core i7-77xx computer for salvage of parts that won't run a proper install of Win11 but using other parts I had saved have it quite happily running Linux Mint.

This came up this morning:

Examine your system carefully to see if all your games and applications work as expected. Make sure you update all driver or at least the graphics drivers. Do it manually from manufacturer's support site, don't rely on Windows Update which usually installs only basic drivers without the full functionality and access to the graphics control panel. If you have an nVidia or AMD graphics card, I would go direvtly at their site as manufacturers often offer older versions of the drivers. If the official driver doesn;t work properly or whatever, you can then install the one offered by the manufacturer, otherwise leave it as it is. You will likely have much more compatibility and stability, let alone features, than the manufacturer version.

PS: If there is no Windows 11 driver, don't panic. All Windows Vista 64-bit or 7 or 8 or 10 64-bit drivers work in Windows 11 with some Intel graphics drivers for Windows 7 exceptions.
