They got it right with Windows XP.
If the driver devs had written drivers for the 64 bit version of XP... we'd still be happily running it. :-)

What can I say... some people are masochists. ^^


I still haven't found anything on any subsequent versions of Windows that I couldn't do on Win XP.
Bluetooth, Defender, Apps, etc., who needs that? Not me. ^^


I still have my original retail copy of XP.
If I was young and could code a lot better than I can... I de-compile XP, make it 64 bit,
and toss all this new-improved cr*p out the window.

I still have XP installed on my "System Two" in my specs. :-)

The only 64-bit version of WinXP I ever worked with was Pro, still have a Dell OEM disc for it.

Huh - only reason for staying on XP is to run very old games. Only masochists would stay on it.

Try running MS Office since 2013.

I know for sure many of my works apps will not run on anything since Windows 8.

I love how people look at old OSs with rose coloured glasses conveniently forgetting how often they used to crash.

I remember XP crashing every day (BSOD equivalent).

Personally, I cannot remember last time W10/11 crashed with BSOD.

XP cannot run things like Hyper-V.

XP is simply not man enough to cope with modern systems.

No point in saying "ah but if..." as that is pure speculation.

In my opinion, XP should remain in dustbin of history, along with Vista, Windows 7/8.

Of course, nobody is stopping people using it but if they want to delude themselves XP is great, that is their prerogative.

I have a preference for the card games from WinXP, small and simple works good. This is the sum total size of the program, just a bit over 1MB and no installer, just add a folder to C:\ and put the files in it then create a shortcut to the games as desired.

I remember the days when I was hesitant to shut the computer off because I knew it might not reboot. The system would need reinstalled once a month. We soon forget about how it use to be. I have not had to reinstall since I got this computer with Windows 10 in 2016.

Was just given an eMachine with Win7 Home Premium, slooow. AMD Athlon II X2, 4GB DDR2, 500GB HDD. It'll be junk soon. Or it may get Linux.

my ECS desktop (GeForce7050M-M, AMD X2) still runs dual setup of Windows XP/7.
Due to conflict of graphics driver, the PC is unable to run Windows 11. always got freezing up.
XP is too old. cannot handle with GPT disks. In my setup, XP mode is to use to read old OE mails (Outlook Express). newer mails have moved to TB.
