Would you go to your annual medical checkup?

I live in a county with a small population. As of yesterday, we only have 93 cases of the covid. I have an appointment this week in the large city in the next county for a back issue. That county has 1700 cases of covid as of yesterday.
Since the covid started, I have been doing my appointments over the phone only to keep my prescriptions filled. I am going to attempt to get another phone appointment if they will allow. Being 70 years old I don't want to expose myself any more than required.
I've had three shots of Moderna, but it appears that you are still just as much at risk of getting infected.

My understanding is that vaccination does not really protect you from getting infected. So, you still need to do the well-published precautions of physical distancing, hand washing, etc. to prevent getting infected.

The most serious impact of practicing these long term precautions is mental fatique > makes people want to party with others risking infection > do other well-published activities instead to combat mental fatique.

However, if you do get infected, then vaccination USUALLY limits the severity of the illness

But in relatively rare cases vaccination does not protect you from severe illness either in so called breakthrough cases

Nobody is in a good situation these days.

I would while you can get in. I am supposed to have a kidney check up after being over prescribed steroids phoned up the hospital and the department is closed for the foreseeable future. Get in while you can

Not whinging but it leaves me with a compromised immune system so I am extra careful. Every 8 weeks I have to spend 1/2a day in hospital having an infusion and I hate sitting there with all the other people whilst it's being done even though we are 1 metre apart and wearing masks.
But it's best to get check ups done

No. From what I gather, according to my wife, who has a doctorate in the medical field, they're not as accurate.

Going to all your medical appointments is important in this day and age. some doctors will even do virtual appointments.

None of my doctors use oral thermometers anymore. If they did, I would kindly refuse and walk out. Infared thermometers may or may not be 100% accurate but they are close enough. If they weren't then doctors and hospitals wouldn't be allowed to use them.

My wife and I just had our routine checkup last week. The only thing different was that the doctor didn't use the scope to look at our throats or in our ears. I have an appointment with my dermatologist on Thursday. Because I have a lot of exposers to the sun, I have to get checked twice a year for skin cancer. So far, the doctor has only found Basil Cell Carcinoma.

There is a technical issue in taking temperatures from different areas of the body - basically due to the actual temperature being different at different points on the same body. As an example I have an Infrared thermometer that can be used to take a temperature from both the Ear canal and the forehead. The instruction manual states that although the device has built in compensation for the two locations as they vary that the two can still be different due to variations in the individual. Both locations readings are accurate to what is the actual temperature but the variation in humans can cause variations in readings. This is also one of the reasons that a range of acceptable temperatures are given in the medical textbooks

I postponed my annual medical checkup (which is a clear elective) until May when covid rates will hopefully be down. Later in the week, I will have to drive my wife to the hospital, nothing serious, but more compelling than a mere elective. I doubt that I will be allowed to accompany her into the hospital building, it is more likely that I will have to wait in the car in the parking lot.

When checking body temperatures you will get different reading from different areas of the body. The time of day can also change the body temperature. In other words there are different variables that can cause different body temperature readings. The belief that 98.6 is the normal temperature is not actually true. The normal body temperature can run between 97 to 99 degrees. My wife's temperature usually runs between 97 and 98 degrees. What Is a Fever?

I don't think slight variations are what they are looking for. If it appears unusually high, they can confirm another way if needed
