I have a issue wit hthe connection of my xbox controller to my windows 11 pc disconnecting sporadically.
The device is on a wired usb connection.
the connection worked initially for about 2 to 3 weeks after wich the connection dropped more and more frequently.
Removing and reattaching the usb connection reconnects the device temporarily.
The device manager indiactes the the device is working properly and the driver is the best according to the windows updates being up to date.
Any help to cause the connection to be made permanent would be appreciated as I perfer using the xbox controller everyday.

Hi, welcome to the Elevenforums 🙏

  • Have you tried a different cable?
  • Check inside the input of the controller for dirt or fluff fibres, clean with isopropyl alcohol (available from a chemist)
  • Check inside that the battery compartment is clean and the points don’t have rust or acid build up, use Isopropyl to clean these also.
  • Try a different USB input on your PC

And, apparently…

How to complete a controller firmware update on your Xbox console:

  1. Keep your controller connected to your console with a USB cable. Make sure the cable is damage-free and firmly plugged in on both sides.
  2. Tap the Xbox button on your controller to open the Home menu.
  3. Go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories. Then select the controller you want to update.
  4. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “” to check the firmware version.
  5. If there's an update available, follow the on-screen instructions. If not, your controller is up to date.
  6. Let your controller sit for up to 5 minutes, as the update may take several minutes to complete.

How to update your firmware on a PC running Windows 11:

  1. Open the Xbox Accessories app on your PC (if you don't have it, download it here). Make sure your PC is running the latest version of Windows 11. (But it shouldn’t matter)
  2. Connect your controller to your PC using a USB cable or Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
  3. If an update is available, a message will appear that says Update Required. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update. If you don't see that message, your controller is up to date.

    …still on a horse.
A few years ago I bought two new Xbox One controllers from the Microsoft Online Store. They were intermittent so I called Microsoft support. I was told to update the firmware. After I did that I didn't have any more problems.
