Hi - I'm guessing I need to add driver(s) to the boot USB, but exactly what drivers ? I added the Intel VMD storage driver and the installer says its not compatible with my hardware. "A media driver your computer needs is missing"... please anyone tell me what driver I need ?

Did you add the VMD driver because you're running in RAID as opposed to AHCI? Also, no idea how to find what media driver you need without having the laptop in front of me.

Have you tried Dell support?
Did you make a backup before attempting to reinstall Windows 11?
Why are you reinstalling anyway?

i've tried RAID and AHCI setting, it refuses to see disk.
i've tried dell support, they were more than useless. they expect me to have a windows laptop in order to build a windows laptop...
re-installing because was trying out Linux Mint, but had issues with bluetooth hw / driver so wasnt that useable, and too technical, so trying to reinstall windows fresh. have tried win10, same message.

The question wasn’t “should I do a backup before I reinstall” it was “does anyone know what driver I need to pacify the installer?”

without knowing the media hardware it is referring to; it won't be easy to diagnose.

Take it you have created a bootable USB drive from a Microsoft ISO and you used Rufus to create the USB?

Bootable win 11, not rufus as that requires me to have a windows machine but I have booted it off the disk and it just gets stuck looking for drivers
