Does anyone use idrive?

It's at 92% - after three and a half days :-)

I did know it could take 4 or 5 days for the initial backup :-) But yes it's a bit of a marathon. The smiley was for the 92% rather than the three and a half days!

800GB in four days is not unreasonable. That comes out to about 2MB/s if I did my math right. My upload maxes out at 5MB/s.

It's finished. My files are actually 622gb - 800gb is drive size. The desktop program says it uploaded 593.53gb. Which suggests some things weren't uploaded? Signed in to check the uploads and while I can view the folders, is there any way you can see what has been excluded? If anything.

Ok I was including downloads in my total and those aren't backed up. So without downloads I have 101,519 files and idrive has uploaded 101,515 files. Just wondering how I find the four files that weren't backed up! I assume they have too long a file name or something?

So I used a file path length program to find any files with longer than 260 - and it found more than 4 - it found over 700. So I'm guessing path length wasn't a restriction on file upload. So I need to find which 4 are missing!

Open the IDrive APP and select the 'View Logfiles' option. You can select either a summary view or the detailed view.
It should list any files that it failed to backup. There can be lots of reasons why, like permissions failures, or it is a shortcut link to nowhere, etc.

Yes I'm hoping it's something unimportant. All I can see in the Logfiles part is this

"[Some of the files / folders you have chosen may have been excluded from backup. This means that the backup of these particular files / folders will not take place. View the list of excluded files / folders from the Settings tab.]"

When I look under the settings tab I can't really see anything. It just mentions files that will be excluded with standard settings applied (Files/Folders with full path names). Don't quite understand that as everything was backed up. It's why I ran that program to see if there were files with path names too long but there were loads so don't think it can be that.

Try opening the IDrive APP and select 'backup now' to force it to run a backup. It will scan over all the files looking for any new or changed or missing files from the backup set to transfer. IIRC it will tell you if it finds files it can't process for some reason.

Same number of files and doesn't mention any that it can't process. Which suggests it has backed up absolutely everything except my count on my drive finds 4 more :-) Actually it did back up one more, but I had added one more. But the difference is only 3 files now. If I login online will it show how many files in each folder? Then I could work out which folder they might be from.

I'm just opening properties under c - users - my name and seeing how many files in each folder. The total is 3 more than the ones backed up.

If I sign in and right click on the individual folders and select details it shows the number of files. So the Documents folder is showing four less files than on my drive. Which is slightly confusing as I seem to only be 3 less now! I'll go through and work out which folder they're from within documents. I suspect it's just some old saved email link or something.

Yes the web interface online will tell you the number of backed up items in each folder.

When I did my first backup I had a similar issue. IDrive did not like cygwin symbolic link files of which I had a couple of source code folders that contained some of these. So it reported a failure on these files on each backup attempt. So I did what you are doing, look at the summary counts of files backed up vs what windows reported in each folder. That narrowed it down and once I removed the cygwin symlink files IDrive could do a full backup without throwing any errors.

Or it might be the four ISO's I have in documents maybe ,.............

It's not the ISO's. I've found 2 missing in one folder not sure what yet. And 1 missing in another folder. But it's strange because it's not a big folder only has 90 files. And I can't see anything missing. What I can see in the idrive folder, is one word document appears twice - it's called database subject........ and there is another version called (squiggly line) $tabase subject .......... So that is additional to what appears in the folder on computer but there is still 1 less file in the back up. I don't think it's anything important tbh but it would be nice to get them to match up.

My IDrive backed up some .iso files no problem.
Have you looked in the suspect directories with hidden files enabled to display?
The only files I have seen IDrive have issue with were those with permission/ownership issues not allowing me access
(I run IDrive as my userid) or those files that were symlinks/shortcuts with a missing target.

I have two folders with 1 file showing less on idrive but checked right through the folders on computer and idrive and can't see any difference. And one folder with 2 items less on idrive - haven't been through that yet as it's full of masses of stuff, not that important and if it's only 2 I know which folder it is each time.

Both the folders on idrive that show one less have a weird double document of a word document. The actual document and one the same with a squiggle and $ sign in front. Which should mean one more not one less. I guess they are some kind of info from the word document.

So the only conclusion so far is it can't count! Which is probably incorrect. I might just leave it as - four files always less on idrive and I know which folders they are from, and if on subsequent uploads it shows more than four files then I can check out what I've just uploaded. But I don't think it will. The folders with files missing are full of photos and all sorts of strange links and shortcuts.

IDK but in my case I just went ahead and deleted the errant symbolic links so I could get a clean status 'success' IDrive backup.
I didn't want to have it fail every time and then have to go check and see oh yeah it is that same failure again.

If I get chance I might do some more digging but now I know it's four files and know which three folders they are I won't worry too much. All quite old stuff.

Ok I was thinking it was working nicely. Haven't added much new the last few days, just the odd file, but ran the back up manually at the end of each day and it seemed to be working ok. Then today - I have a new folder of photos. Ran the backup manually and they haven't uploaded. Tried that a couple of times. Hmm. They are just normal jpegs in a normal folder but it hasn't seen them. I haven't done a scheduled back up yet as didn't want it to happen at an inconvenient time or set for when the computer was turned off.

After adding the new folders / files, did you click on the Change... button and make sure the new items you added have checks next to them so they are selected for backup? See item #3 in the image below from the IDrive online help document.

See this: FAQs on online backup via IDrive® Windows application
