24H2 update concerns


Not necessarily, I upgraded from XP to Vista, then to 7 to keep all my data and games from earlier Windows versions. It worked, I could play Pinball and Lose your marbles from Plus 98 in XP. I could also use the much better CD Player Deluxe instead of Windows Media Player.

I just copied them from the install CD's. Still run fine in 24H2. You wouldn't believe just how much nicer it is to play Solitaire on a touch screen. ;)

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

It's a bug:

After using the Windows Disk Cleanup application, it may display an incorrect amount of disk space that can be freed up in the 'Windows Update Cleanup' category.

Please note this is a reporting error. When 'Windows Update Cleanup' is selected and Disk Cleanup is run for the first time, some or all files in that category (for example, 15 GB) are cleaned up correctly and the related disk space is freed as expected. However, after this initial run, the tool may inaccurately report an amount of space still available for cleanup (for example, 88 GB) in the 'Windows Update Cleanup' category. This inaccurate amount of disk space is reported even though the space was already freed in the initial run.

Next Steps: We are working on a resolution and will provide more information when it is available.

Affected platforms:

Over a decade ago the 24H2 that I'm now running on my System One started life as an OEM install of Windows 7 on another machine. It got the Windows 10 upgrade in 2015, and every W10 Feature Update up until I migrated it to this machine to be supported for the 21H2 W11 upgrade in 2021. Subsequently it has had all the W11 Feature Updates. Seems to be doing fine....
