It's really not as bad as we make it sound.
SFC and Disk Cleanup... have "reporting" errors only, and one or both have been fixed for the Insiders.
We should get the fixes, the end of this month or with the November patch Tuesday.

The rest of the complaints, are just about changes MS made... not actual problems. :-)

I'm not an Insider either.
But as I mentioned.... the problems with SFC and Disk Cleanup are......... "reporting" errors.

They work. The just report that they don't. :-)

Disk Cleanup "says" it can't get rid of 8.63GB that it already removed.
And SFC, keeps reporting the same errors, no matter how many times you run it.
But they do work. They just LIE and say they don't.

It's just sloppy updating by MS. 8-)

AND MS has already fixed these issues on the Release Preview channel, which is just one level above us peasants. :D

The problems in my opinion are superficial.
The point of the fixes being made to the insiders releases means that they will now be passed down to public releases.
Not worth worrying about.

Pausing updates is good though if it makes you feel better, it makes me feel better. Hence the build I am on.

You really don't need to pause updates to prevent getting 24H2, by doing so you are preventing your 23H2 from getting the latest security updates.

The 24H2 rollout has hardly started yet, none of my 23H2 machines have seen it offered yet. And even when it does get offered, it will be entirely optional. You'll see something like this (from when 24H2 was first offered to the Insider Release Preview Channel back at the end of May). It won't install until you explicitly click Download & install. You can ignore it and still check for 23H2 updates, 24H2 won't install without your permission.

Airing on the side of caution is a good way to go, if it gives you peace of mind.
Like others have said, the “over dramatized issues IMO” are reporting issues, not actual problems.
Unfortunately, no matter how long you hold out, there is NO GUARANTEE that you will NOT get issues. It is impossible for any software vendor to test new updates in the infinite number of PC combinations that exist.
Best bet, ALWAYS have a backup of your current system before updating

Well if you want to be ultra-cautious, then set the Target Release Version for 23H2 - you'll never be offered 24H2 then, no matter how often you check for updates....

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus the Insider Beta, Dev, Canary, and Release Preview builds as a native boot .vhdx.

I downloaded the 24H2 ISO to upgrade my Home Edition VM. No complaints...yet. Except that I had forgotten that MS blocks ISO downloads to Linux machines, so I wasted a few hours waiting for the page to validate.

I would imagine these will download, even on a Linux machine. [Assuming you can run a .cmd file]
That's how it creates the ISO.
The ones that say "Cumulative" are "just" updates. The rest will create full blown ISOs.

Or maybe you have to run the linux.sh command. Last time I was on Linux, it was Ubuntu 5.xx. LOL

nice everyone responded to my concerns still want to think about it. I have a one-month-old laptop that I do not want an expensive door stopper. Its running great, it has a 1TB hard drive that if tempt files will not go away till update comes to delete them. There has to be a update coming fir that issue?

If you mean the 8.63GB that Disk Cleanup shows... it's not really there.

And yes, the Release Preview channel already got the fix.
So we should get it end of Oct. or patch Tuesday in November.

thank you for confirmation of fix. I have seen it can take up to an hour and a half for update. I have already changed screen time out to "never" so screen will not mess up update. AS you can see, I have been watching. Its late where I am at will think about it might restart update in the morning. I suggested renaming update too 24H2-CYF CYF means " cross your fingers" in the morning I might have too.

I had a different experience this morning.
I checked for updates and it immediately started downloading 24H2.
I hit the pause updates button, took a Macrium image and then resumed.
Now on:-

I strongly suggest to ANYONE upgrading from one version to another to make a full system image in case something goes haywire. Yes, it will revert back to the previous OS if something fails in the upgrade, but I would not 100% rely on that happening as it is supposed to. It's windows, after all. Stuff happens. It's a good practice to always have an recent image to fall back on at any time for any reason.. The best insurance you can have.

Been watching problems and today I got it on my new Dell laptop and my 2-year-old laptop. I put both during downloading on paused till 11/14/`24 on new laptop and 11/21/24 on old laptop. Hopefully this mess is fixed I also know I can resume any time I want.

My thoughts better save then sorry
Does this mean you also have system backup images? IMO, everyone should make routine images to an external drive. One never knows when something could happen and without an image lose everything.
