Might have a block for something.
Look here:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators\GE24H2

See if GatedBlockId says None or has a number in there.
If a number is present your computer has a block in place.

It's a "phased rollout".
They do most Feature Upgrades that way.
Over a period of a month or two, it'll pop up in Windows Update, for just about everyone.

Just do the In-Place Upgrade. It's easy, it's fast and best of all, it upgrades and...

An In-Place Upgrade "compares" what is installed on the computer, with the Windows ISO image.
Then, it overwrites any corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.

The In-Place Upgrade is the ONLY thing Microsoft did... 100% right. ^^

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.
Macrium Reflect
AOMEI Backupper Standard (free)
Hasleo Backup Suite (free)

Get the Windows 11 ISO (Option #2), and save it to your desktop...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you might lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

Then, it overwrites any corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.

The In-Place Upgrade is the ONLY thing Microsoft did... 100% right. ^^

Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.
i am definately going to try this and from the heart thank you for this tutorial to do so (Y) genuienly, last time i ever tried a inplace upgrade was windows 7

Windows 7 didn't have an In-Place Upgrade. That was just a "free" upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10.
A true In-Place Upgrade is much better. It repairs Windows AND upgrades.

Like I mentioned above... it's the ONLY thing, Microsoft did 100% right.

I even did an In-Place Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Muahahahaha :D

Not really... I had just installed Windows 10 like a year earlier.
It was still running clean and tight, so I figured, why go through all the tweaking I would have to do, to get rid of all the Microsoft junk.
It worked out rather well...

The Disk Management pic shows how my drives are set up.
I have two identical Samsung 500GB 2.5" SATA drives.

Normally, only the Windows 11 one is physically hooked up.
But on patch Tuesday, I hook up the Win 10 drive, update it, and make a backup.

Then I switch back to the Win 11 drive and do the same thing.
I love backups.

I only have about 37GB on my C: partitions. So backups and restores are very fast. Like 1.5 minutes.
I can test iffy software, and then just restore from a backup to erase anything the iffy software might have left on my comp.

It's like having a Windows UNDO button. :-)

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
The Disk Management pic shows how my drives are set up.
I have two identical Samsung 500GB 2.5" SATA drives.

Normally, only the Windows 11 one is physically hooked up.
But on patch Tuesday, I hook up the Win 10 drive, update it, and make a backup.

Then I switch back to the Win 11 drive and do the same thing.
I love backups.

My Partners PC i built with what i had in the cuboard
I plagiarized a song, just for Windows 24H2...

I bought this old comp, for my internet romps
The wifey, she wanted one too
I got them to run, for our digital fun
With that ol' 24 - H2

Gimme that good old 24 - H2
Them that refuse it are few
I'll not yell and stomp if you fill up my comp
With that ol' 24 - H2

Our comps are fast, and we need them to last
I'm hoping, for one year or two
I grease up their parts, each day 'fore we start
With that ol' 24 - H2

Gimme that good old 24 - H2
Them that refuse it are few
I'll not yell and stomp if you fill up my comp
With that ol' 24 - H2

To the tune of...

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
ive been hearing from some fellow pc people that they have been able to get the 24h2 update but nothing comes up on mine or the partners PC.
is it still in some beta im being blind to?
did a google search and aparntly its avalible but we are both still on 23h2.
At the moment it will only come up in Windows Update on a supported device if you have 'Get the latest updates as soon as they are available' turned on. It's a phased rollout, so even with that turned on not everyone will see it yet.

If you click 'Check for updates' it should find 24H2 and start downloading and installing. If you wait until Windows Update does its daily check then it should be offered as an optional update.

I have 24H2 on one of my three supported devices. TBH it's not that bug-free yet. I would advise patience. Leave 'Get the latest...' turned off, stay on 23H2 and wait for it to be offered in Windows Update to everyone. Hopefully the bugs will have been fixed by then. That's what I'm doing for my other two machines.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

the main reason why i was enquiring was because me like my fellows we all run AMD systems so from what ive seen its good for FPS on them, im in no rush but as i said up in the thread i have to reinstall my OS so im gonna give Ghots menthod a go, i have my data on a seperate drive so im not losing anything :)
