I own too many laptops: A Dell touch screen with Windows 11 and 6 others (not counting the other four laptops I bought for this household.) Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
I have done as I was having problems with my broadband. Must be a virus of some kind.

I wouldn't bother with that Pay.webp thing you showed us. That recently changed hardware link should prompt a scan of your PC for a legitimate key. Windows can find it and authenticate for you automatically.

Yes, I've seen it before. I managed to dispose of it simply by disconnecting my router and reconnecting it. A hard reset on router and PC made it go away and Windows found my key.

Your screenshot says:

We can't reach our activation servers at the moment. Make sure that you're connected to the Internet, wait a few minutes, and try again. Error code: 0x800704CF

Are you connected to the Internet? You need an internet connection to get or confirm activation. If you are connected, have you put in place anything that could be blocking access to Microsoft's servers? Have you tried to block Windows updates, for example?

I have not put in any blocking software. Would not know how to. This has just happened today.
I have been activated now for over 2 years. I am just a home user. Why after 2 years does my computer need to activate windows?

Have you made any significant hardware change? If so the unique hardware ID that your digital licence is linked to will have changed. Replacing the motherboard will do it, replacing a CPU may, replacing the disk(s) doesn't count.

For a hardware change, when the trouubleshooter has run click on 'I recently changed hardware on this device' instead of 'Go to Store'. If you have ever used a Microsoft account on this PC then you can find the 'old' PC in your MS account and transfer the activation to the new hardware.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Why after 2 years does my computer need to activate windows?

As I stated earlier I have seen this before. One reason could be that your key was not authentic. Another reason could be that your upgrade did not include the correct edition. The most likely reason would be that you made a significant hardware change. Nobody knows exactly what happened to your PC because nobody has a method of going back in time and observing everything that happened to your PC. For example, if you originally had a Windows Home edition and tried to upgrade to Pro that would prompt a key requirement. I am not saying that is what happened. I am only giving an example. Some keys do have an expiration date. I hope this helps.

I have not made any hardware changes to my PC for 2 years when bought the PC from a computer shop. It has worked fine and reliable for 2 years. Now I seem to have a windows problem for no reason.

Since I booted up the computer today, I have not seen that message but on going to setup, I get in Red. Windows reported that no product key was found on your device. Error code 0xC004F213.

What happend to the product key yesterday?

Did you attempt to upgrade your operating system recently?
