I have had my windows laptop about 2 years now and lately it has the most annoying issue. whenever i use a wireless mouse to scroll it goes haywire. Sometimes i scroll down and it will skip or scroll up, and not let me use it as normal. i noticed it about 3 months ago and even bought a new mouse. same issue.

all my troubleshooting i have tried:
Simple reboot
alternate mouse one usb one bluetooth both issues
Also made sure no debris in either of them
checked for driver updates by uninstalling and rebooting
Everything in this article i found on here FIX: Windows 10/11 Scrolling down on its own.

after backing up my files i tried doing 2 different system restores(Can only go back to Dec) both failed

i dont know if the hard drive can be the issue its not the manufacture one it was a custom build, i did do a hard drive health and it was a 94(According to crystaldiscinfo)

i am using a HP laptop running Windows 11 24H2 OS (build 26100.2605)
hard drive name is KINGSTON SNV2S2000G : 2000.3 GB

Im at a complete loss on what else to try so I came to the experts. thanks for any help.

To discount Wi-Fi/Bluetooth issues try connecting a wired mouse and if that's okay maybe use that permanently?
Even if you don't want to use a wired mouse at least it will point to it being a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth issue.

i have no idea how to do this ... do u have a walkthrough
Download the Linux Mint ISO
Download and run Rufus
Follow the Rufus prompts to access the ISO and create a Linux boot USB flash drive
Boot from the Linux USB (you may have to access the boot menu for your laptop to direct the boot process to the USB instead of the main drive)
Booting from the Linux USB runs the program from the computer's memory and the USB. When you're finished, re-boot your computer and all the Linux system will be removed from the memory

i dont want to harm my laptop
If you're concerned (or, alternatively, whether you're concerned or not) you should create an image of your drive, as a backup
Macrium Reflect Download Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - MajorGeeks
and/or
AOMEI Backupper AOMEI Backupper | Best Backup Software for Windows PC and Server
(and don't forget to create the recovery USB flash drive for each of these programs)

Have you tried uninstalling the mouse in Device Manager PLUS ticking the box that says, "attempt to uninstall the driver"

1735753967394.webp

If you do this, you need to then navigate with the keyboard using TAB and or cursor keys to get up to the menu where you can scan for hardware changes which will find and install a driver for your mouse.

Of course, most laptops have a touchpad and you might be able to use that.

This is just a thought. Could the touchpad be causing the problem? I don't have my laptop available right now so I can't check. I think you can disable the touchpad in Device Manager and see if the problem is fixed.

Have you tried uninstalling the mouse in Device Manager PLUS ticking the box that says, "attempt to uninstall the driver"

View attachment 120779

If you do this, you need to then navigate with the keyboard using TAB and or cursor keys to get up to the menu where you can scan for hardware changes which will find and install a driver for your mouse.

Of course, most laptops have a touchpad and you might be able to use that.
hi just tried this again for the heck of it and same result after a restart both mice go haywire .

Does this happen when the laptop is on battery? I know this sounds crazy, but I bought a cheap oem charger for one laptop and when I used it the mouse froze. I assume the charger was injecting a lot of AC into the laptop and interferring with the buses.

I used a wireless mouse and keyboard for years. Had hiccups with both. The mouse ate batteries. Finally went back to a wired mouse and keyboard. Been happy ever since. And I don't have to put in any batteries!

This is just a thought. Could the touchpad be causing the problem? I don't have my laptop available right now so I can't check. I think you can disable the touchpad in Device Manager and see if the problem is fixed.
^^ This one ^^

Yeah but when you get frustrated and throw a corded mouse, it fly’s back and hits you in the head. I have bruises all over my face.
