I mainly just installed in different locations in the C drive. At one time I did try to install it in an external but neither worked. I’ll try to reinstall it completely and use that program you mentioned to make sure all files are removed and see if it works with no comparability mode selected

Still nothing, do you think there’s been a more recent update to windows 11 that screws with that Nvidia patch possibly? I’m just trying to think of any other reason it wouldn’t work

Mine still works on Win 11, and I have the latest version.
In fact, about 2 months ago, I uninstalled it from C: and installed it on F: to keep C: from getting too big for backup software times.
It installed and ran without problems.
Maybe you should download Specct (free) and post a screen shot, so we can see what hardware you have.
Speccy - find the details of your computer's specs. Great for spotting issues or finding compatible upgrades. Download the latest version today.

It'll look like this...
To post a screenshot on this forum...
1. Take the screenshot, edit it as desired, save to your desktop as .png or .jpg (max. size = 2MB)
2. Left click in your post, where you want to place the screenshot.
3. Click the Attach Files button at lower left, browse to your pic and click Insert.
It would be helpful if one of the regulars would try to install this. See if I've forgotten something.
It should be pretty cut and dry on a normal laptop or desktop.
Note: I ran the game installer, and Links Launcher.exe (the file that starts the game),
and probably the two patches, as Administrator.
The download should look like this (with a pic added).
RUKSKUK.exe is for no CD play (generates a few false positives, because it's for no CD play. Might have to allow in WD).
I didn't have to make an exception for it in Bitdefender.
The 1.07 patch brings the version to 1.07
The Nvida patch is for Nvidia cards AND to make the game work on modern comps.
I don't know which patch is supposed to go first. I do know you can re-install them over top of themselves if needed.

I've had it running on Win 10 since May 2020, and on Win 11 since Oct 2021, with no problems.
Well.... occasionally the game crashes. If that happens just restart it. It even offers to take you back to where you were.

No not the patches, it’s a program you install that apparently helps to run the game. It didn’t work for me, but I’m still waiting for the update to install and I’m gonna try that

I would disable it before you download or install the game.
AND... after the game is installed, make an exception in Windows Defender for the whole Links 2003 folder.
Then you can re-enable Windows Defender
I just scanned the whole Links 2003 install directory, except the "Courses", and 4 hole in the wall AV's found some false positives. MAYBE... Windows Defender is seeing those ??

On the links page, they describe an issue similar to mine where the game starts in a black window. It says that may be linked to windows media player not being able to display the opening into video of the game. Is there any way to remove that file from the game, disable the player, etc?

Up to you. I don't think it has anything to do with the game... these days, but I'm not sure.
I "Think" I uninstalled WMP, because it keeps calling home.
A lot of that tech support stuff is seriously out of date.
The ONLY thing that sticks out in my memory, was those two patches.
I think I may have installed both or one of them... twice.
I was just playing around with them and poof... the game worked.
Maybe, I had to run them as administrator too?

I've found that helps with a lot of old games.
For anyone else trying to install this game... see post #43, for... everything.

The top pic is "Adjust desktop color settings in Nvidia Control Panel.
The bottom pic is Settings > System > Display > Graphics settings (Win 10). Similar location in W11.
Yet another well hidden Windows setting :/
