I seriously do not think you'll find a solution for this. I've lost track of the hours, days, weeks... I've searched and searched for a solution to this issue. The link you shared will only tell me how to enable or disable Intel TBMT and that's pretty much it. What I want to do is to completely remove any mention of it from the device manager. I don't want to see that ugly little bang that Intel deliberately left for me to deal with because they were too apathetic to deal with it themselves. It's their mess. They should clean it up.

For example, this:

You know what's so funny about this? Device manager in Win 7 is clean as a whistle and the OS runs as smooth as greased glass. I don't have to worry about slow downs due to glitchy half-baked intel drivers or nagging Windows updates that so frequently mess up my OS or fighting to get the latest distro, I mean "version" of Win 11 or any of that crap. Makes me wonder why I even bothered to buy another system board.

there is a setting in services to disable intel optane.
not sure about turbo but the CPU turbo boost could be disabled in advanced power settings with a reg change,

Yes. It can be disabled. There are all sorts of ways that it can be disabled. In the BIOS, in settings and services, in the device manager etc. BUT

THAT little triangle will always be there, in the device manager, to remind me and every user that something is WRONG.

THAT unsightly little scab will always come back no matter how much anyone keeps picking at it or pours corrosives on it.

People fail to understand that disabling it does not make it go away. Disabling it only hobbles performance and speed. Of course there is a way around it if you over clock your CPU like I did on the 6900K, but there will always be that intermittent jankiness, that glitching momentary lag, that brief hesitation on the execution of a task, that glitch that causes screen shots to freeze or mess up, that glimpse of an interlude that injects senility into your memory so your PC literally forgets what it was supposed to be doing... Yeah, that. And all the while, it will be glaring at me in device manager... that little yellow annoying Insect compliments of Intel and catered to by Windows 11.

We will call him George. We are stuck with him. George will not go away. Like Intel, like Microsoft, George doesn't care. George will stay.

If Intel wouldn't fix it 6 years ago they sure won't be fixing it now. Even so, on a Windows 11 ready platform Microsoft should have taken into consideration that they should have NEVER let this vestigial abomination show in device manager. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy! Nope. I'm not impressed with Windows 11. Not in the least.

first ..
change this registry entry so that in the advanced power settings a new menu appears for adjusting the Intel Turbo Boost settings.

Using Registry Editor, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\be337238-0d82-4146-a960-4f3749d470c7 and in the right window select Attributes.
Modify the value of "Attributes" from 1 to 2. Data should read “0x00000002 (2)”.
This will uncover a hidden power option in the advanced power settings. This should be instant no re-start needed.

then open advanced power settings.
control panel > power settings > change power settings > advanced power settings

when the advanced power setting window opens go to and click the CPU settings and at the bottom of this menu will be the Turbo settings. in there will be several settings for the Intel CPU Turbo Boost.

one of them may activate the Intel Turbo Boost Driver.
its worth a look if nothing else.

Steve, I would only be too happy to cooperate with your suggestion if not for one thing . . . Brace yourself.

I found my own solution.

Yes, after years of struggling, watching videos, scraping through forums, begging and pleading and driving myself half crazy I decided to try something and it worked. Unfortunately, I don't know if it will work on the X299 but I managed to pull it off on ye olde faithful so who knows? I might just need to resort to that registry edit yet.

BUT


For the time being I'm a happy camper. A clean bill of health. No bangs or busts in my device manager. I can hardly believe it myself.



And it sho do look good!

Now I won't say what I did here because my method was slightly unorthodox. (I'm known for such things TBH.) Nonetheless if anyone is having trouble with TBMT giving them the what-for in device manager I think I have the answer. I've booted and rebooted and attempted Windows updates and it still holds true. Q-CODE reads AA okay and we're all systems go. Howbeit there is a slight chance of a security risk involved with my method that I won't be going into. That is why I won't advise anyone to try this unless they have exhausted all other possibilities and are completely fed up with Intel's gross negligence. Anyone attempting my method does so at their own risk and they will have to pm me for the step-by-step instructions.


I just want to thank everyone who tried to help me with this as I know some here spent hours of their precious time trying to solve this mystery. So thanks to Steve, and to MoKiChu, and that Antsy guy and the Ghoster and everyone else that put themselves through all that brain wracking misery to come up with an answer to settle down this angry old grandpa guy exhibiting dubious levels of manic behaviour.

I really do appreciate it guys (and gals). Just knowing that I had a few running mates in this race made it possible for me to keep on trying.

So, does anyone recall my plaintive cries for Mr. MoKiChU to come and rescue my poor PC from the throes of the misery generated by TBMT THREE?

Well, he got back to me with an official fix for the ASUS SAGE X299 platform. Here's the fix:

- ASUS X299 MB :


Start/Restart your PC then press Del when the ASUS logo appears to enter in your BIOS

Press F7 to switch in Advanced Mode > Advanced tab > CPU Configuration > CPU Power Management Configuration > MFC Mode Override : Switch from MFC Driver Override to OS Native Support > Press F10 to Save & Exit

*please note*

This is not my "unorthodox" fix for the X99 platform but it was explained to me why my maverick approach to TBMT3.0 on the X99 produced favourable results. That fix did not work on the X299 platform and in fact messed up my settings pretty good. I did eventually have to move back to a restore point when I attempted my unorthodox fix on the X299 so . . .

please, please, please.... DO NOT... Try my outlandish fix (disabling Memory Integrity) on the X299 platform. Instead, use the above fix in purple text, sent to me by MoKiChU. IF you have an X99 platform feel free to do what you will with it as that platform is EOL anyway, so whatever you do with it will be at your own risk. So far, my X99 platform is working very well with Memory Integrity disabled in Core Isolation. I have zero bangs in device manager and I'm happy with this.

As for the ASUS SAGE X299 system, it would seem that the MFC Mode Override carries a bit of a caveat with it. My IRST software no longer functions on the Windows 7 Ultimate side and of course the TBMT interface no longer functions either. I may have to do a little tweaking on that end of things. No worries, it all works good on my X99 anyway. I have the best of both worlds now.

Steve, I feel badly for that poor lady who had to lug that box to my door through the snow. We don't see UPS up this way very much and that poor woman couldn't have been much younger than me. Anyway, all's well that ends well. I told her to stay safe on that highway. Right now the Alaskan highway by where I live is pretty icy as we've been getting some steady snow fall these past few days. I haven't opened the box yet but I probably should as the girls will be coming in off the school bus soon.
