It sounds good to me for an American release. I've had my copy for years (probably since 2000). I think I have the same as the one you list.

Somewhat mad I'll miss out on this deal as I'd already invested in refurbishing my Sennheiser HD700 cans. Anyway, Amazon's Prime Sale has these Sennheiser HD 660S2 Open back headphones going for $399.95, a price drop of $100 bucks.

Trust me when I say that’s a great price for those phones. They were originally released at $599 but ultimately ended up at $499. Now Amazon’s Prime sale has them going for $399. Here's just one review...

Had I not just spent $480 on replacement parts for my HD700’s prior to this sale, I may have gone those 660S2s at that price.

Refurbished my Sennheiser HD700 headphones by replacing the ear pads ($81), Headband cushion ($29), and getting Moon Audio's 10-foot balanced Black Dragon cables ($370). For the price of those cables, I could have bought the above phones, but I wanted my HD700 phones as I simply love their spaciousness. Something I not sure the 660S2 could match.

Anyway, listening to these now, that was money well spent. These phones sound better than when I first got them, even after break in (if you believe that sort of thing). Bass response is slightly improved, soundstage is about the same as with the original cable (now destroyed).

BTW, what Moon Audio aims to do is match their cables to your headphones, and the Black Dragon cables are tailor made for the HD700 phone's sound signature.. Here their aim was to tone down the highs, specifically around the 7k freq. as the biggest complaint around these phones is they're too bright. They certainly did that, and without killing the soundstage. I'm happy

Anyway, dad mine been at that level of wear where I needed tape to hold things together, I would have replaced them altogether. Mine just needed ear pads, headband cushion, and a new cable. Everything else was in great condition.

@Edwin, I noticed (assume) you like orchestral music, have you ever heard Miles Davis's Porgy and Bess?

While on my Miles Davis binge, I came across his Porgy and Bess album, but was hesitant to get it, being I'm not much of an orchestral music fan. Since getting it, I've been listening to it a lot, and it has become one of my favorite Miles albums.

The above was bought months after hearing the regular version CD. It's the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (Mo-Fi) SACD version and even though I don't have an SACD player, the standard two-track layer sounds excellent, and better than the normal CD release.

Also love the packaging of these disks. They're actually mini facsimiles of the LP release. Currently have 4 of those (all Miles Davis) as they'll expensive. $30+ bucks apiece. Mo-Fi records other artists and genres so not just Miles Davis or jazz.

Anyway, have you heard Porgy and Bess? I think you might like it (whether from the normal CD or SACD version).

Can you still find parts for them?

I was lucky I was able to find the Sennheiser OEM ear pads, and headband cushion for mine as these headphones have long been discontinued; and thus, why you can't even find the OEM cable anymore, unless found used.

It can still look a bit better if you wrap around one of those self adhesive false leather on Amazon.
The adhesive is amazingly strong. I use it to patch a chair arm rest before.

Not that I need it, but I was looking to see if I could get another replacement headband assembly should I need one. The only thing I could find parts wise doing a Google search came up from a post I did back in 2020 over at ten forums - The Old Is Gone... Time for a new... - Windows 10 Help Forums.

Parts for older headphones are really hard to find

Anyway, I'll hold onto these until I replace them with the HD800S next year. Good thing is Moon Audio will swap out the ends of the cable I bought for a nominal fee, so it won't turn out to be a "only fit those phones" purchase. Another reason I went with them

I brought my Kanto YU6 to a repair shop last weekend. I received a call today regarding the issue. The power supply needs to be replaced. The technician asked me if I want to continue the repair for $190. Well, it is something beyond my skills, and I don't want to waste it, so I agreed.
I was torn between this repair and a NAD D 3020 hybrid amp ($649). I guess I will just give the YU6 another chance for now.

After getting my Kanto YU6 back from the repair shop and set it up again, I noticed that my temporary setup using a Fosi Audio class D mini amplifier actually gives a better sounding bass even at very low volume.
The standalone Kanto Sub8 powered bass unit is loud and thumpy. But the Fosi Audio amp produces a more pleasant sounding subtle bass with a "thud" instead of a "thump". Even at low volume, you can still hear the bass like it is coming from a distance. So I ended up putting the Fosi Audio amp in between to create the bass effect that I want as an option. Plus it gives me direct and better access to the bass volume and frequency knob. The Sub8's knobs are not accessible which are located at the back of the unit.
