Yup! I thought it was the DragonFly but it's Audirvana taking exclusive control of the primary audio out.

Oh, and that Dragonfly wouldn't do that since it just a basic DAC. My DAC on the other hand would depending on input used. My DAC accepts digital and well as analog inputs, in addition to the USB input. When using the USB side through the ASIO drivers, YouTube won't play because I have the USB input set to 32-bit 384000Hz (the highest frequency my DAC can use). With that setting, when listening to YouTube clips, I have to switch the DAC to Optical Input which is set to 48000Hz (48k).

Oh, man I'd love to pump that, especially from the 207 on out mark, but my wife and neighbors would be screaming bloody murder. I'll have to try it tomorrow when everyone is out. I did listen to it through the speakers, but I can only go so far :)

That said, I also listened to it through my Sennheiser HD700 cans and they handled it beautifully. Would love to have a CD of it as I don't think a compressed YouTube clip does it justice.

Anyway, I bought a Hi-Res (24-bit/192k) album (Hiromi's Move) from HDtracks, and to be honest I'm not that impressed. The album sounds very digital, whether played through JRiver or Audirvana. My physical 16-bit CD copy that I ripped in Flac sounds much more natural on both players.

BTW, I downloaded both flac and the wave versions (you get a choice), and since it's a 24-bit/192 recording containing 9 tracks averaging 8 minutes each, the flac version came in at 2.64gig, while the Wave version came in a 4.46gig!!!. Contrast the original 16-CD comes in @416meg uncompressed flac.

192K is not that good -- even compressed mp3 at 256 or 320k would be better. Lossless compressed flac or uncompressed wav is by far the best. I'm not sure why anybody who has a set of working ears and anything slightly better than bad phones or cheap speakers would even THINK of regarding 192K as even "Mid-Fi" never mind "Hi-Fi".

I suppose since so many people listen to music on those cheap bud earphones they have lost the meaning of "High Quality Audio".

One also has to assume the source was originally recorded at decent quality before studios applied compression etc.

Routed audio into a "Pro quality studio Pre-amp" .

You Tube though severely shows its faults once you start using Studio quality High end pro gear. !!!!

Worked fine here within the source recording limitations on Mission studio reference speakers (around 1000 USD a pop for each of them) !!!! no "Neighbour" problems here -- we all have huge properties and plenty of space-- however not my style of music -- prefer the UK's "Royal Opera House" production of Wagner's finale in the Ring Cycle in "Gotterdammerung" - 4th and final opera in the Ring cycle for those who have no idea !!!! (The Twilight of the Gods with Brunhilda etc).

As sound is a very subjective topic, I'll say they sound good to me and that's all that matter. And the files I talk about are fact flac file, as well as wav. And I wouldn't even consider anything in mp3. YMMV

But as said before, I'm not here to debate the theory of Hi-Fi sound and human hearing. I'm simply stating what I like and what files and equipment I use.

Haven't quite got the space for one of those but I would love one of these (from your video You Tube link) in a smaller format.

I could get one of those into my Gaff. You've given me an idea for an "Early Xmas Prezzie" !!!!!

I'd play it so the clock on the top would fall off with the vibrations !!!!!. Town centre 1 KM away would probably raise Earthquake warning (we do get those from time to time when volcano eruptions possible as they are here -- fortunately not often in SW Iceland though).

Next time I'm in US I'll have to see it -- I'd love to "Tickle those Ivories" but I don't suppose "mere Mortals" will be allowed anywhere near it. Some Bach Fugues would be brilliant on it.

As for pictures - rather than the inside of a large store this is more my style : (You won't see this in NYC or Philly !!).

Anyway, check out this Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs sampler. In case you've never heard of MFSL, the label prided themselves for their clean "Audiophile" like sound. Anyway, this disc came out in 1994. Check out the artist...
