So now the result of using "Bcdedit -set {bootmgr} device partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume1" is that the Boot Manager device line is correct, as shown in post #22 above, but now I have a new annoyance I never saw before I started fiddling with bcdedit and found a problem I didn't know I had:
On cold boot or restart, the first screen I see is an all-black screen that shows these lines in large white text:

>>Media Present ......
>>Start PXE over IPv6 on MAC: 00-D8- (plus the rest of the MAC)
Actually, I think it first shows IPv4 on MAC: etc., but if I leave it alone for a few moments, it tries again with IPv6.
The only way I've found so far to get around this and into a full boot is to hit ESC on my keyboard. Waiting it out doesn't work.
Why do I have this new obstacle to a quick and full boot, and how might I get the he** rid of it
