I had a read, I can't see where it actually helps. The issue isn't a drive issue. This is a message that pops up and is showing in explorer when there is no actual drive plugged in, there is no external D drive. The screenshot shows a D there isn't one.
I am finding W11 Explorer quite frustrating and unnecessarily cluttered. Check out the repeat instances of everything, why? I suppose it'll take time figuring how to kill most of it.

Check to see if thereās an SD card inserted as itās easy to forget. Also isit possible thereās an internal drive or that the main drive is partitioned as Windows/C + separate Data partition (D)?
Thanks @Bastet , no card in the reader. This laptop is straight out of the box. Any Lenovo partitions for recovery I would assume are hidden well and truly, as per usual. Show hidden drives is also deselected in the options

I plugged an external in for 5 min this morning to copy a few files over. As C is the only drive, the external showed up as D: but that was for 5 min, the external hasnāt been plugged in for hours since.

If you plug the external drive back in does the message disappear? I wonder if the transfer had finished before you disconnected the drive.

Not that I understand why as a result, I just plugged in an different external, an SSD, it registered as D: I ejected it and the icon has now gone. Doesnāt explain why this eventuated but itās gone. I always eject safely, like I am about to jump out of a jet, with caution.
