Hello,

In the last 3-5 days I've been having very random crashes using my PC. The behavior occurs even when the PC is essentially doing nothing. There is no discernible cause. It has happened during gaming, when I am away from the computer (my pc is on 24/7), and when I am streaming.

When this originally started happening, I reset all my system specs to factory settings. My PC crashed again during Memtest, so I replaced the RAM with brand new RAM. This seems to have reduced the occurrence of crashes. I've also undervolted my CPU with PBO2. Negative offset of -30 and introduced stricter power limits.

This also seemed to reduce the frequency of the crashes.

The crashing behavior is as follows; Screen goes black, there is an audible click from the PC (like when a PC shuts off), but the PC itself stays on and powered. Reset button does not work, restoring PC function requires holding down the power button to power cycle the PC. Not once, but twice.

I've monitored part temperatures during gaming, the only concern seems to be the VRAM on the GPU with temps reaching high 80s and 90s. However, the crashing occurs even when the PC should be largely idle.

2) Create a new restore point:

3) Read this link on Windows Driver Verifier (WDV):

Enable and Disable Driver Verifier in Windows 10

4) Learn the methods to recover from BSOD caused by WDV by booting into safe mode and running one or more of these commands:

verifier /reset

verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

5) Plan to run the tool with various customized test settings.

a) Test all non-Microsoft drivers

b) Test no Microsoft drivers

c) For the first run of WDV select the 3 customized tests displayed in the TF tutorial

6) Whenever the WDV tool is started if there is no immediate BSOD then open administrative command prompt and copy and paste:

verifier /querysettings

Post a share link.

Customized tests will then be posted for the next run of WDV.

WDV can run continuously during the testing.

I'm not really sure what you mean when you say 3 customized tests. Part 2 of the tutorial you posted, it only demonstrates one test.

I've followed it to the letter; Part 2; Steps 1-5.

I haven't disabled WDV, I'm allowing it to run for 48 hours now as the guide says. I'm skeptical my computer will be on for that long, I think it's going to have a crash to black screen way before that.

1) Post share links with event viewer system and application files:

2) View the motherboard / owners manual for RAM / DIMM

See if there is or is not an optimal DIMM when using only one RAM module.

Plan to run RAM testing after completing WDV testing.

Instructions and links will be posted.

Hi, I went ahead and ran all of those tests. Tests were run for non-Microsoft drivers.

Group 1; Resulted in a BSOD, v2 log attached
Group 2; No BSOD, a queryseetings text document is attached. There was a random crash to black screen before I could grab it, so I attached a v2 log for that as well
Group 3; Straight crash to black. Windows screen didn't even pop up. I saw the Mobo logo, then crash to black screen, reset, repeat, third boot Windows repair finally showed up and I logged into safe mode to collect the log. V2 report attached, and a querysettings text document attached as well
Group 4; No BSOD, querysettings text document attached

There was only one generated BSOD.

The misbehaving driver was mrcbt.sys.
